Dr. Charles Howenstine, DDS

Dr. Howenstine was rude, abrupt and lacked positive chairside manners with my 5 year old's tooth extraction this past week. I had heard such good things about this office and the website boosts an effort to make people feel comfortable but this was not our experience. He was very rushed, trite and became upset when I told him that my kid does best when he has things explained to him. Dr. Howenstine rudely said "we can cancel this procedure right now and you can find another office" which was not warranted or what I was suggesting at all. I was just a nervous mom, with a nervous kid; hoping the staff would interact with my son in a way that was comforting to him. Dr. H may do this procedure daily, but it is new to us as patients and there was no reassurance given at his appointment. The building is beautiful and the support staff were lovely but nothing is worth this kind of feeling as a parent and we will be finding another office because of Dr. Howenstine's disrespect.

Our daughter has two abscessed, infected teeth that require extraction. Dr. Bernard saw her on 8/24/2022 and recommended extraction of four teeth, but specifically asked us to consult with an orthodontist prior to extraction. We did as we were asked, and the orthodontist recommended extraction of only the two infected teeth. The orthodontist provided this recommendation to Dr. Bernard prior to our visit. We talked to St. Joseph Dentistry staff about the conflicting opinions, and we were told that it would be worked out when we arrived for our extraction appointment. This morning, 9/21/2022, we arrived for our extraction appointment. Our 8 year old daughter was in pain from the infected teeth and we were eager for a remedy. When we asked about the competing opinions (four teeth vs. two teeth) we were informed by the hygienist that "Dr. Bernard does not like having his plan questioned." We simply wanted Dr. Bernard to explain to us why he recommended removing four teet

Sorry but, I can’t believe this guy has 5 stars on these sites. It makes me believe that people with bad experiences are not commenting. He is arrogant and condescending, my wife and I experienced this twice with him figuring he was having a bad day. The third time we finally agreed we’ve had enough. He was talking to us (a masters educated teacher and a BSN registered nurse) like we are idiots. I’ve heard this from a few other patients of his, as well as people that have worked for him.

I had a excellent experience everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Will be back again

I had my first cleaning with Jake and it went great! Very thorough, yet gentle hygienist! Thx Jake! PS...I also enjoyed the relaxation chair and watching HGTV during my appointment!

St Joseph dentistry staff were friendly from the time you walked in the door til you walked out..... they made me feel very welcome and took extra care in making me comfortable throughout my appointment.

Great experience from office staff to dental hygienist to Dr. Howenstein. All very friendly and professional. Loved all the updated equipment, especially the patient chair that provided the massage! No more back spasms for me when I go to the dentist!
