Dr. David Gelb, DDS

I saw Dr. Gelb for a same-day extraction and implant. I went in referred by my dentist with an abscessed tooth. Dr. Gelb bragged about himself throughout the entire appointment. As he was about to put the implant in his assistant pulled him aside and pointed out to him that he was about to place the implant on top of the abscess which he had not removed. If his assistant hadn't been quick-witted I would have been in for a boat load of infection and pain. And as other reviewers have stated, no doubt he would have blamed me, the patient, for his error. I left with the sense that this guy was not only full of himself but also incompetent.

My experience with Dr Gelb was a long time ago, but it was terrible. I echo the descriptions of arrogance, refusal to ever admit wrong, insensitivity and for me, not standing by his work. I could go on and on. The only reason I am writing this now is because the wonderful prosthetic dentist I have worked with for decades, starting back when I used Dr Gelb, has retired. Since I am looking for a new cosmetic and general dentist, I was reading a bunch of reviews. I happened to look up David Gelb on impulse and saw that so many echoed my own experiences. I did find a wonderful oral surgeon to do a couple of replacement implants and a new one and the experience was like night and day when compared with my earlier experience with Gelb. It was almost a pleasant experience with the other dentist who did the newer implants. I am not one who likes giving poor reviews but I see nothing has changed. I know some love Dr Gelb but it truly puzzles me as to why.

6 single tooth implants over time with Dr Gelb. First, Dr Gelb is 1 of 2 implant surgeons in the world who can extract a tooth and do an implant at the same time. He is not a Dentist who took a 2 day course to be able to offer implants as many do, this is his specialty since 1983 with over 12,000 implants so he is confident and reassuring. After reading some negative reviews, I never found Dr Gelb to be anywhere close to as described. In thought, it is not an easy procedure yet Dr Gelb was always reassuring, engaging in conversation with staff to keep me calm while making certain there was no discomfort. What reassured me was knowing one of the worlds best was doing my procedures and to this date, not 1 issue with his work. Have trust in Dr Gelb, let him know during a procedure if there is any discomfort and you will have a guaranteed, best results. Remember, there are 2 sides to every story and knowing myself as a difficult patient, Dr Gelb is the master of implants

Patient beware. Dr Gelb left me in pain and now I need to go another dentist for more work to fix issue. More money to spend. Dr Gelb gets defensive if you have any type of problem, concern, or issue. Remember HE can do no wrong. He always gets perfect results according to him. If there are any issues you must be the problem. He works very quickly and has a curt bedside manner. If there are problems he doesn’t address them readily. He says he’s world renowned but some reputable dentists in CT never heard of him. Trust me you will do better elsewhere.

My prosthodontist took an x ray of the implant Dr Gelb recently gave me and he said it was perfectly placed..unlike many others he had seen. He was impressed with the work and so am I. He's a great guy besides..so optimistic and he really cares about his patients. I'm grateful to him and also to his lovely staff.

Absolutely horrendous. I had a tooth extraction and implant done. He was very rough with zero bedside manners. He told me my extraction was the worst one he has ever had to do in his entire career. He told me to keep my composure! I was composed just tears running out of my eyes. I wanted to file a complaint then but didn't figuring I was being sensitive, however, today for my 4 month check up, he told me I was doing a horrible job with cleaning the area and proceeded to roughly rub my arm with rubber gloves on to show me how to "clean" the area with a tooth brush. Felt like a rug burn on my arm. Again very rude. So rude that the assistant that was in there felt horrible and kept apologizing for him. (She however is amazing and does not deserve to work for him!) He is also awful to his employees to the point it made me uncomfortable for them as well! Also, he told me my dentist was going there later in the day to have an implant done as well... isn't that a HIPAA violation?

I had an implant with Dr. Gelb. The implant failed due to an infection. He then put in a bone graft which also became infected. On second visit, he did not bother to numb area for novocaine injection. Excruciating pain. Very rough, arrogant doctor. He has much experience, but I would not go to him again or recommend him.
