Dr. Fonda Strickland, DDS

I am new to Winston Salem , North Carolina. I found Dr.Fonda Strickland. Through my insurance company, however I did see the reviews, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt it seems. My experience was pretty much the same experience other people had with them. I went in for my dental cleaning and x-rays. The dental assistant was amazing. Dr. Fonda Strickland was not very friendly when it came time for me to check out the front desk wanted to charge me for the visit however I received many text messages to complete the insurance information before the day of my appointment so that they can check the eligibility for my insurance-the front desk person insisted on me paying for the visit. I told her no I have insurance. Why would I pay you out-of-pocket when you should bill my insurance so she had to go get permission from Dr. Strickland to bill the insurance I find that really strange. My insurance paid 100 but I was billed 22.00"

After filing a complaint with the NC Department of Insurance, Guardian insurance agreed to pay even though Dr. Fonda Strickland's office switched me to an out of network doctor in their office AFTER I verified coverage with them (I was switched to Dr. Jessica Walker) and then performed unauthorized work on me (Dr. Walker tried to sell me extra services before she even started, I told her that I only wanted "what my insurance covers 100%" - she should have stopped right there, but she proceeded). Because the NC Department of Insurance said that I DID MY DUE DILIGENCE and was unfairly charged, Guardian paid. I suggest you proceed very carefully before being treated by Dr. Fonda Strickland's office, Dr. Jessica Walker, or Dental Suite, or you might end up with a $287 bill like I did, for a check-up they told you was covered. I have also filed complaints with the BBB and the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners due to what I feel were dishonest b

Not happy with coming here. I was charged for having a different doctor fix my tooth without being informed before that the doctor didn't take my insurance. And they expect you to tell them if you want to see a doctor covered under your insurance or not even though they only have one doctor listed for this facility. And they expect you to pay for the bill even though you were never informed before seeing the different dentist. I didn't find out that the other dentist that came in to help out was not covered under my insurance until I got the bill. But it doesn't show on my bill that it was a different doctor that I am billed for. I had to call my insurance company to find out what happened. And the crazy part is the day that all this was done, the lady who took pictures of my teeth, I told her that if my insurance doesn't cover it I don't want it because I can't pay out of pocket. Terrible. I would rate her a negative number if it were a choice. Her bedside manner is lacking. She made me feel as if I was an inconvenience to her time. I have a severe disability that affects my memory and thinking. I wanted to discuss my treatment plan with her. She went over it with me on the first visit however, I can't remember a lot of it and I wanted to ask about doing something else. She told me that I was getting ahead of myself by asking what all needed to be done in my mouth to fix everything. I don't understand how I am getting ahead of myself by wanting to know the issues in my mouth and what needed to be done to fix them. She looked at me and laughed and in a condescending voice said she was confused as to why I was asking about my treatment plan because she thought she had already told me what needed to be done, her words. I said to her that she would want to know too and that I needed confirmation. She made me feel uneasy.

Kind, patient and professional

Doesn't follow through on what she tells patients. Has little concern with being supportive and understanding of patient needs. Treats patients as an inconvenience.
