Dr. Matthew Felts, DDS

i went to Dr Felts for years and was pleased. Then his assistant left some goop on my teeth too long and it hardened and was nearly impossible to remove and loosened two healthy crowns. I went back the next day to say that my crowns were loose. Dr. F said they were fine. Six months later, I went back because they hurt. He said they were fine. I said, no they aren't. He looked again and said that the seals were broken and I would need root canals. I was in pain but they said I had to wait 3 weeks. I went to another dentist who took photos and showed me that decay was clearly visible around the seals of both crowns. I ended up losing both those teeth because of severe decay after spending $7000 trying to save them. Now I have no teeth on the lower right side and it's difficult to eat. I can't get implants due to allergy to metal. If Dr. F had addressed the loose crowns when I asked him to, this wouldn't have happened. I live on social security so will have to live with this. Sad.

He takes short cuts with general preventative exams. He does not use a probe to check fillings, but only does 'visual' checks. His hygienists do not check gums for pockets as a matter of course. You have to ask for it. He still charges the full comprehensive exam and cleaning rates that I've paid at other dentists in other parts of the country. I think he's either overworked and cutting corners, or leaning towards obtaining restoration fees, rather than providing adequate prevention.
