STAY AWAY
This doctor's office is straight from the 1980's and so is her equipment. At one point, I think she used a literal pencil to do markings on my teeth. I'm sure back in the 80's Dr. Steed was top in her field. Now, there are different ways and approaches to treat TMJ dysfunctions apart from outdated bulky appliances. The appliance I received was extremely bulky, and it was impossible to eat with. Fortunately, I only wore it for a few days. However, my symptoms worsened because of it. Please look elsewhere for TMJ issues. Start with less invasive means - not an old appliance that can permanently mess up your bite.

Total Let Down
I visited Pamela Steed after seeing multiple TMJ doctors. The first appointment went well and she wanted scans then see me back the next day. The next day she gave me an appliance. My grandmother spent over $5,000 on this. I wear all of my retainers/appliance religiously. When I did not progress, I was told that I wasn't wearing it OR I just needed to go see a surgeon. When I went to a surgeon that was not on her list, but came highly recommended by a friend who had surgery, I was told that surgery was NOT needed but my bite was messed up so much from the appliance. He told me to throw it away (this was my 20th appliance for TMJ) and go see an orthodontist to fix my bite. I went to a local orthodontist, went through braces and had ANOTHER set of retainers (NTI & upper retainer). I do not have much pain now but I was told that my bite will never be correct due to wearing the retainer that Steed made for me. Please save your money and time!

TMJ Patient since age 11 – Jul 13, 2022

Saw Dr. Steed in October of 2020, and at first she made it seem like there were no other options for fixing TMJ like the appliance was the only option. If you are reading this please get a second opinion. She is a very nice person, I am sure she is a great doctor, however I don’t think 5,000 is worth it. My jaw was locked the entire time I was wearing the appliance. I wore it 24/7. 6 months later I had to get surgery anyway to open my jaw back up. The surgeon was incredible, he was great (Dr. Bojrab) however when I was done with the surgery I still had to keep wearing the appliance. Now, my bite is completely off, I think I have to get adult braces and I am in more pain because of that appliance. Also this morning the appliance broke (one of the clasps just fell off). their office staff does not want to help you whatsoever with insurance. Please don’t go here. Also, to respond to the other lady’s comment about “not being compliant” I wore the appliance 24/7.

DO NOT TRUST DR. STEED! At first they treated me very well, and then I started having continued pain/issues... Dr. Steed actually yelled at me multiple times! I've never EVER been treated in this manner by a health professional before. FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO!

Disappointed Patient – Jun 11, 2021

They won't fix your problem, it's just temporary relief and they don't tell you that you'll have to keep using the device the rest of your life. They made it seem like this was comparable to surgery which in the end was what recommended by the dentist that the doctor refers you to. Also if they forget to submit your claim that you paid upfront for it is not their responsibility even though they make it seem they are taking care of it for you. Be careful because at first they seem so caring but really they don't care about their patients just the $5,000 they make off each one. I trusted them with my money for my health and shouldn't have.

I had a $4000 appliance made. It started to crack during treatment. It helped with jaw popping, but not with pain. I asked to have the appliance repaired so that it wouldn't get worse, but the assistant insisted it was fine and did not want to repair it. When it broke last week, I called to get an appt or at least a call back to see what could be done, but nothing. I called again and the assistant argued with me that I must have done something to it. She then said what did I expect, it was 4 years old. (These are supposed to last up to 30 years.) Professionalism and friendliness would have gone a long way with me even if there was nothing they could do, but she was neither. I used to work in the dental field. I know how to treat patients that are in pain. I would never recommend this office. Just terrible.

10 yrs ago, I saw Dr. Steed for close to a year for my TMJ mouthpiece to be adjusted. I was on a helpful monthly payment plan. She decided I needed surgery. One of her assistants gave me a reasonable monthly amount if I used a specific surgeon. 20 minutes later, Dr. Steed gave me a much higher amount, that combined with what I was already paying, would exceed my Mercedes payment. She became irate and unreasonable when I wouldn't tell her specifically who had given me the lower amount. I was afraid that if she was this emotional and unprofessional in front of me, a patient, then she might fire that person. That was my last visit. She made me so uncomfortable, I never returned.

I was referred to Dr. Steed in August 2016 following a snorkeling incident that caused my jaw to lock closed for an hour. I'd had TMJ issues my whole life, and when they eventually came to a head Dr. Steed fixed the root cause. I wore a MORA splint 24/7 for six months and my jaw was infinitely better than it had ever been in my life. I had no issues weaning off the splint, and I'm now wearing braces to finish the job. Many of these negative reviews are probably noncompliant patients.

I read reviews and was very reluctant to see Dr Steed but when I went to the office, I was impressed. The staff were very professional and extremely pleasant. Dr Steed herself was very sympathetic to my problems and expertly explained in detail what I needed to have done. It's been a month and a half for me but I am much better with her treatment. I would highly recommend Dr Steed!

Horrible. Completely mismanaged my condition. Have seen several other dentists who have confirmed her incompetence. Rude and dismissive when asked questions. Does not comply with current standards of care for TMJ management.
