Dr. Andrew Chen was born and raised in the Bay Area, graduating from college at the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in integrative biology. He earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University after spending time as a personal fitness trainer and graduate student in physiological science at the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan and his cardiovascular disease training at the Scripps Clinic. After completing his residency and internship at Washington University Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Dr. Sawhney completed his fellowships at the University of California at San Diego in both Cardiology and Electrophysiology. Dr. Sawhney specializes in arrhythmia management and is sub-specialty board-certified in cardiology and in cardiac electrophysiology. He is active in clinical research and has lead investigations on the optimal approach to catheter based ablation of atrial fibrillation and the optimal programming for cardiac resynchronization therapy devices. He has published numerous articles and written several textbook chapters on arrhythmia management. His clinical practice involves the management of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardias, ventricular tachycardia, pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices. He has the most current techniques and is leading the program on left atrial appendage closure to help prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
