A little about me and how I can help. My name is Jessica Beane and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) in Michigan. I earned a BA at Wayne State University (2004) in psychology and a minor in sociology. I obtained my MS from University of Phoenix (2014) in Mental Health Counseling. I have over 10 years experience working in the mental health field. I started out working in a residential center for teenage girls as a youth counselor/direct care aid, rehabilitation specialist at a clubhouse, and a case manager in a Community Mental Health (CMH) agency. I have a variety of experience with different populations including teenagers all the way to the elderly. I have worked with individuals from the inner city, suburbs, and rural areas. I have worked with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, Bipolar, PTSD, trauma, abuse, rituals, OCD, relationships issues, domestic violence, substance use/addictions, and self esteem issues. My therapeutic style begins with developing rapport with a client. This is extremely important because individuals like yourselves will be sharing intimate details of their lives and need to feel safe. I use an integrated model overall because I find it important to have a large tool box when working with people. CBT and motivational interviewing are two models I use the most. I believe the importance of learning how thoughts affect feelings which trigger behaviors. I also find it useful and beneficial to assist clients in getting motivated for change. My belief is that everyone deserves inner peace and happiness. I hope to walk with you along this journey and help you feel better and be your truest self. I am a licensed Master's Clinical Social Worker in Michigan and Nevada with over 20 years of experience working in the field of medicine and social work. I am a registered yoga teacher so I practice yoga and meditation for personal wellness. I have worked with clients with a wide range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, mood and thought disturbances. I have helped many people who have experienced legal, family, and financial problems. My therapeutic style is person centered and relationship based. I believe in treating people with kindness and empathy. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. I believe people have choices; you can choose to take a different path or not. My goal is not to judge you for who you are or who you want to become. I am a person centered therapist so what that means to you is I allow you to direct the treatment as you deem fit and necessary. I will not force you to do something you don't want to do or talk about. I respect a person's boundaries. I also practice mindfulness so what this to you is I don't always have the answers. I believe thoughts can come and go; they only have meaning unless we give them meaning. I am educated in addiction medicine. I have done research on weight issues and mental health. I have worked with people with substance abuse issues. I enjoy treating both children, adults and families. I enjoy happiness in my sessions and I also enjoy music. However if you are struggling, I will be there to support you and provide you a empathetic bedside manner. My goal is to make you feel better at the end of the session than when you came into it. However, at times that requires your participation and allowing yourself to feel enjoyment through positive communication. My goal is to listen and reflect. I like to keep things simple. I am an experienced yoga teacher and have been teaching yoga since 2003. Yoga has often been described as the world's oldest model of personal change. Integrating these ancient techniques with modern therapy approaches, I offer yoga based psychotherapy, stress reduction, and relaxation strategies.
