Dr. Barnds is passionate in diagnosing a medical problem, developing an individualized treatment plan, and implementing that plan to give his patients the best opportunity for complete recovery from injuries.

My top priority is providing excellent patient centered care. I ensure that every patient's concerns are heard and we work together to create the best personalized treatment plan possible.

While I still enjoy performing general orthopedic procedures such as total knee replacements, carpal tunnel release, and trauma. My passion is foot and ankle surgery, in particular, the treatment of complex foot and ankle reconstruction including total ankle replacements, flat foot and cavovarus deformities, as well as tendon and ligament reconstructions. As a former collegiate tennis player, I have a passion for sports injuries related to the foot and ankle.

Growing up in the Kansas City area, I am excited to return to the region after training at some of the top centers of orthopedic education in the nation to provide excellence in the care of sports medicine knee, shoulder, and foot/ankle injuries. I am passionate about providing the same high level of care that I received as a patient/athlete during my high school and collegiate career. My primary objective as a clinician is to understand the desires of each patient regarding their respective injury/condition and hope for return to function, and to employ what I have learned to best achieve that goal.

Dr. Sugino is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon specializing in comprehensive reconstruction of the foot andankle. She is board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot andAnkle Surgery (ABFAS). Dr. Sugino advanced her surgical and clinical training by completing an additional year of fellowship at the NewportAdvanced Foot & Ankle Fellowship in Newport Beach, CA. Her training focused on reconstructive forefoot, hindfoot andankle surgery, including complex Charcot reconstructions utilizing Ilizarov external fixators, limb deformity correction,lower extremity trauma, sports medicine, total ankle replacement, and plastics procedures including advanced muscle,adipofascial and skin flaps for limb salvage. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Sugino completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Swedish Covenant Hospital inChicago, IL where she trained at the prestigious Weil Foot & Ankle Institute. Simultaneously, she completed aDermatopathology Fellowship that specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous skin and soft tissuedisorders including skin cancer with Bako Pathology in Alpharetta, GA. She received her medical education from DesMoines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Sugino grew up in Wailuku, HI and received her B.S.in Biology, Minor in Music, and M.S. in Molecular Biology Infectious Disease from University of the Pacific in Stockton,CA. Dr. Sugino has been very active in research throughout her training, and she has multiple awards for her work. She isa speaker at many conferences around the country, and she is an active member of the American College of Foot andAnkle Surgeons (ACFAS) and the American Microsurgical Orthoplastic Society (AMOS). Dr. Sugino is recognized as a devoted patient advocate who focuses on advancing patient care through research,education, and treating patients like family. She incorporates evidence-based medicine and the most advancedtreatments and technologies specific to each patient. Her passion in research and remaining current on the lateststudies has a large influence on how she guides individualized patient care. Dr. Sugino enjoys training for marathons, soccer, hiking, camping, surfing, rock climbing, traveling, and spending timewith her husband, Jason, and their rescue dog, Foxy.
