Dr. Poole is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with a subspecialty of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology with a minor in Spanish. He then earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his residency, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. In 2015, Dr. Poole completed his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After earning his medical degree and finishing his internship and residency, Manuel Rivera-Alsina, MD, MBA, RDMS, FACOG, FACPE, completed a three-year fellowship in maternal fetal medicine (perinatology) at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston. He is board certified in maternal fetal medicine. He entered military service in the 1970's and served in the Army Airborne Rangers. His naval service includes research in lung physiology, casualty evacuation and women's health during deployment. He held many clinical positions through his decorated and distinguished service as a Captain in the Navy, including Seal Team medical officer and obstetrics-gynecology residency program director at Navy Medical Center Oakland and Navy Medical Center San Diego.After active duty service, he accepted a position as chairman of the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School-Milwaukee.
