Brandon Swed, MD is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. His clinical interest is in gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies. His research is focused on novel therapeutics and drug development for pancreatic cancer. Dr. Swed received his B.S. in Neuroscience and Chemistry from the University of Miami. He earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, where he was the recipient of the Weinberger Award for distinction in Hematology and Medical Oncology and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he led several quality improvement initiatives as part of the Healthcare Leadership in Quality program. He continued his medical training at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, where he completed his clinical fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology, having served as chief fellow during his final year. Dr. Swed cares for patients with a broad array of hematologic and oncologic diseases, with a particular focus on treating patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. He has also been involved in several translational and clinical research projects focused on novel therapies for pancreatic cancer and was selected to participate in the 2021 AACR-ASCO Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop to further develop this work.

Imo J. Akpan, M.D. graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Chemistry. Prior to enrolling in medical school she was involved in iron biology research at the Children's Hospital Boston where she helped to describe a mouse-model for anemia of inflammation by studying the role of hepcidin in iron homeostasis. Dr. Akpan received her medical degree from The University of Illinois (UIC) at Chicago College of Medicine and received "The Michael and Kate Brny Research Award" for research supported by the American Society of Hematology and the UIC Craig Research Award. Dr. Akpan then enrolled in the Physician-Scientist Training Program at Northwestern University/McGaw Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois where she did her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology. Subsequently, she did an Advanced Hematology/Oncology Research fellowship as a K12 Physician Scientist Scholar at The University of Chicago Medical Center where she also worked as a Clinical Instructor. Dr. Akpan's clinical and research expertise spans several blood disorders, including anemia (any type of anemia in addition to auto immune hemolytic anemia), iron disorders (high iron levels and iron deficiency), sickle cell disease, thalassemia, PNH, platelet disorders including ITP, high hemoglobin, high platelet, white blood cell disorders and, bleeding and clotting disorders including Anti phospholipid antibody syndrome. Dr. Akpan provides consultation for patients with complex bleeding or clotting issues undergoing surgeries and blood disorders in patients with a history of bariatric surgery. She works closely with her pregnant patients and works closely with obstetricians and other members of the inter-disciplinary team. Dr. Akpan co-leads the Women's clinic for blood disorders at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a dedicated clinic for women experiencing blood disorders including heavy menstrual bleeding, thrombocytopenia in pregnancy, anemia in pregnancy, blood clots and anticoagulation management during pregnancy, among others. Dr. Akpan is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has spoken at clinical and research conferences across the country. Dr. Akpan is an avid runner and was inducted into the Swarthmore College Garnet Athletics Hall of Fame for Track and Field in 2013.

Dr. Joseph Jurcic is a Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center and the Director of the Hematologic Malignancies Section within the Division of Hematology/Oncology. He specializes in Medical Oncology and focuses on leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative disorders. Based in New York, NY, Dr. Jurcic is affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He received his M.D. from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is board-certified in both Medical Oncology and Hematology.Dr. Jurcic's clinical expertise includes the treatment of acute and chronic leukemias, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and myelodysplastic syndromes. His research interests encompass acute myeloid leukemia, radioimmunotherapy with alpha and beta particle-emitting radioisotopes, monoclonal antibody therapy, developing novel small molecule inhibitors, and molecular monitoring of minimal residual disease. Recognized as one of New York Magazine's "Best Doctors" from 2014 to 2024, he has authored or co-authored over 80 articles and book chapters. He has served as the principal investigator on more than 25 clinical trials. Additionally, Dr. Jurcic lectures at national and international conferences and is the Leukemia Section Editor for The Oncologist.

Samfee Doe, born and raised in Liberia, attained her Bachelors of Art and Bachelors of Science at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA. She then got her Doctor of Medicine and Masters of Public Health at St. George's University, Grenada. She then completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Her interests lie in global women's health and health care disparities. She hopes to continue to contribute to women's health by conducting quality improvement research in hope to shed light on barriers that contribute to racial disparities in healthcare.

Tracy Bohn Hemmerdinger, MD, is the medical director of obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley and division chief of obstetrics and gynecology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. She is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center. In her role, Dr. Hemmerdinger will continue to expand NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital's obstetrics and gynecology division through provider recruitment and community outreach. In January 2021, the hospital opened its newly renovated Maternal & Newborn Care Unit, designed to provide an outstanding experience before, during and after childbirth and expand access to the hospital's team of leading specialists and expert care. Dr. Hemmerdinger is a board-certified OB-GYN and has been a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2008. She also served as a member of the NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst Blood Utilization Committee. An accomplished academic researcher, Dr. Hemmerdinger has published in peer-reviewed journals, most recently on the topic of universal screening for SARS-CoV-2 infection among pregnant women. The recipient of multiple awards and honors, Dr. Hemmerdinger has been awarded the NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst's Elmmy Award, honoring exceptional service and care to patients. Passionate about training physicians, she also received the 2014-2015 Medical Student Teaching Award for outstanding teacher of obstetrics and gynecology from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, as selected by the medical students. After graduating from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Dr. Hemmerdinger served her residency At Mount Sinai Medical Center. She has served as a resident mentor from 2010-2020, before becoming a resident family mentor from 2020-2021.
