My grandmother was a nurse for over 40 years, and I thought she was the coolest person on Earth. I wanted to go into healthcare to be like her. I chose obstetrics and gynecology because it incorporates the best parts of medicine. I get to see patients throughout their lifetime and develop relationships, and I get to practice in multiple settings - office, operating room, and labor and delivery. \n I work hard to stay current on new medications and techniques in my field. I graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, where I played on the tennis team, and was the first college graduate in my family. \n I have always been a diehard North Carolina State fan. (Go, Pack!) I married my high school sweetheart who attended NCSU. I attended East Carolina University for medical school and had my first two children during this time. I did my residency in Charlotte, lived there for four years and had my third child during my last year of training. She was born prematurely after a very high-risk pregnancy, which has helped me to see close-up the challenges that some of my patients encounter. \n I believe I'm a better doctor because of that experience and am thankful that my daughter is thriving and healthy today. \n I enjoy being on the water, reading supernatural romances, running in races with my kids (when my hip is behaving) and traveling and experiencing new cultures and foods. I have traveled to Guatemala several times throughout my career and try to schedule regular medical mission trips.
