He performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with a particular interest in minimally invasive approaches to heart valve repairs. His other area of focus involves caring for patients with complex thoracic aortic disease such as aneurysms and dissections. He received additional aortic surgical training in both traditional and less invasive endovascular and hybrid approaches to treat aortic pathology. Dr. MacHannaford is also a member of the Heart Transplantation team and is trained in the implantation of mechanical circulatory devices for patients with end stage heart failure.

Kristine J. Guleserian, MD, medical director of the Congenital Heart Surgery Program at Medical City Children's Hospital, and is board-certified in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and congenital heart surgery. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Guleserian cares for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital heart defects.Dr. Guleserian is from Boston, Massachusetts where she earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine after graduating from Harvard College with a degree in the Classics. She completed her general surgery residency at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island followed by her thoracic surgery residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She returned to Boston where she completed advanced fellowships in congenital heart surgery, cardiovascular tissue engineering, and cardiac morphology at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.Since 2016, she served as a congenital heart surgeon and Director of Heart Failure and Transplantation at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, Florida where she was Professor of Surgery at the Herbert-Wertheim School of Medicine.Dr. Guleserian returns to Dallas where she was a congenital heart surgeon for over a decade. She previously held positions as the Surgical Director of the Cardiac Transplantation and Adult Congenital Heart Surgery Programs at Children's Medical Center/UT Southwestern Medical Center. She was also an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Associate Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program.She holds leadership roles within the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Congenital Heart Surgeons Society. Dr. Guleserian currently chairs the STS Workforce on Congenital Heart Surgery. She is a founding member of the World Society of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery and serves as a member of numerous national and international professional societies and committees including: International Society for the Nomenclature of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and Women in Thoracic Surgery.Among numerous awards and accomplishments, Dr. Guleserian has been named a Top Doctor by U.S. News & World Report and was named a Best Pediatric Specialist in Cardiothoracic Surgery by D Magazine for six consecutive years. Her book entitled Surgeon's Story was published in 2017.She is the first woman to lead a congenital heart program in the United States.
