I have worked in the field of human services for 24 years and received my Master's degree in 2007, leading me to become dually licensed in substance abuse and mental health counseling. While I have addressed a wide range of issues over the years, the focus of my work has been extensively with families, adolescents, and adults around issues of depression, anxiety, addictions, parenting, and family conflict. I believe that you have the solutions within. It is my job to be a conduit of change and guide you through the process of self discovery leading to ultimately achieving your goals. My approach begins with building a strong therapeutic relationship and then integrates pieces of cognitive behavioral theory, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and solution focused therapy. I have worked with individuals from all walks of life, from healthcare professionals to parents to business professionals to homeless who all share a goal of feeling happy. I have training and many years of experience working with clients who have a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, substance use and recovery, trauma recovery, career challenges and general life satisfaction. My style is supportive and motivating. I view therapy as an active process where we work together to not only reduce your discomfort but to spend more time feeling happy and content. My approach leans heavily on cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) interventions but I also recognize that sometimes you just need someone to listen and help you sort through thoughts and feelings to develop a clear picture of where you're headed. My goal is to be present for the challenges you are facing. Second, it is my priority to ensure a collaborative relationship throughout treatment. It is sometimes very challenging to make change and this can feel overwhelming. While I do work with many different issues, my main areas of focus are: drug and alcohol dependency and PTSD.
