James River Family Practice

I am fairly new to Dr. James Halverson’s practice, but in the time I’ve been his patient, I’ve been deeply impressed by his kindness, attentiveness, and genuine care. He treats me as if I were a close friend or family member, always taking the time to listen and connect on a human level.Having worked in healthcare for over 40 years, I firmly believe in a fundamental order of patient care: Be safe (do no harm), be kind, and—if possible—make the patient better. Dr. Halverson exemplifies all three. His medical expertise is evident, but what truly sets him apart is his compassion. Unlike so many providers who seem tethered to a stopwatch, he makes time to sit, listen, and engage heart to heart.As the saying goes, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Dr. Halverson embodies this principle in every interaction. I wholeheartedly recommend him and am grateful to be his patient. If you’re looking for a doctor who truly cares, don’t you wish you were his patient

Dr. Halverson's Medical Assistant Nandy is amazing. Not only is she very personable, kind, and compassionate. She took the time to get to know my son and offer him some information regarding an upcoming entertainment event. He experienced a medical episode during the visit and she immediately consoled him and even took him on a walk outside to further assess his condition. As a parent, her reassuring and calm demeanor helped diffuse a stressful situation. We can't thank her enough.
