At the age of 8, his family moved to Westport, Connecticut where he spent the majority of his pre-collegiate life. In 1986, he graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology and a minor in studio art and sculpture. After receiving a full scholarship and teaching assistantship, Dr. Cook remained at Tulane University where he graduated with a Master of Science degree in cellular and molecular biology. In 1996, Dr. Cook earned his Medical Doctorate at the Tulane University Medical School with acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following his medical degree, Dr. Cook undertook his general surgery internship and neurosurgical residency at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated in 2002. Since that time, Dr. Cook has been in private neurosurgical practice and relocated to Austin, Texas in 2014 where he remains a partner at Central Texas Brain & Spine (CTBS). Dr. Cook's professional affiliations include membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and has been board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery since 2007. Dr. Cook is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and was previously a clinical faculty member of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado as well as an adjunct clinical faculty member of the Family Medicine/Neurosurgery Department of the University of Wyoming College of Health Sciences. Dr. Cook's primary neurosurgical interest revolves around a broad range of spinal ailments with an emphasis on cervical and lumbar reconstruction surgeries, spinal revision surgery and neuromodulation. He utilizes advanced technologies such as image-guided surgery and minimally invasive techniques when indicated. He strives to remain current on new surgical techniques and he has extensive experience in all aspects of spinal surgeries including cervical and lumbar fusions, cervical disk replacements, non-fusion stabilization devices and sacroiliac fusions. Dr. Cook has a vast amount of experience with neuromodulation procedures including cervical and thoracic spinal cord stimulator implants, revision surgeries for poorly functioning or failed spinal cord stimulator systems as well as peripheral nerve stimulator surgeries including occipital nerve stimulator implants.
