Best of the Best
At 77 years old and 90 pounds, I was not a good candidate for surgery. Dr Lebenthal insisted that, (with his support), I could build myself up to be able to undergo the surgery if necessary. On first appointment, he told me what I needed to do and gave me a card with a number to text daily progress and convey any feelings or concerns. I texted, (sometimes lengthy), every evening 7 days a week for 4 months and he responded to everyone. I have never been under the care of such a thorough, caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable physician. He did not always agree with the findings of the radiologist and went to great lengths to discuss them before drawing his own conclusion. When I suffered the tragic death of my granddaughter, He called to offer his condolences personally. After a very comforting conversation, he subtly reminded me that I needed to continue working on myself. Dr Lebenthal made me feel like I was his only patient and made a huge impact on my life. He's Best of the Best!!

Dr. Lebenthal is a great human being. He's a role model of a true patient advocate. He made his recommendations to me and encouraged me to get a 2nd,3rd even 5th opinion if I desired. He didn't stop investigating my results until a concrete diagnosis was established. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Lebenthal and his practice deserve more than I can author here in praise. Technical expertise, knowledge, compassion and comprehensive care make a visit with Dr. Lebenthal seem more like you are adopted into the family. Dr. Lebenthal was recommended by my specialist and frankly every aspect of medical care associated with Dr. Lebenthal's care for my very rare condition was outstanding. His office staff, nurses, technicians have provided a standard of patient services that really provides what patients need. A chance for restored life style. If that is not enough Dr. Lebenthal himself is so invested in care he actually gives (and answers) his mobile phone number because he recognizes when a patient has faced sometimes years of illness not all concerns are going to come to mind in the first hour long consultation. In addition, the Hospital provides all resources online and in person for a patient before and after surgical care. Dr. Lebenthal's Practice makes perfect , I say.

I’m an ‘old school kind of guy. I never met a doctor who gave me his business card, circled his cell phone, and then gave me a bad time for not calling him directly. The first time I called him he was scrubbing for surgery and asked me to call him back after 6pm. Later I traveled to Boston with a cranky old friend of mine to meet this Dr Lebenthal. I expected a ten minute meet and greet. Five days later, after a dozen tests and exploratory surgery, I was his committed patient agreeing to surgery which was just slightly less than a lung transplant. My friend was in awe with Dr Lebenthal who personally pushed the buttons of the world famous Brigham and Women’s Hospital as well as Dana Farber Cancer Institute to get the dozen of tests done immediately as well as exploratory surgery done early one Saturday morning. He stood by us, got on his phone and made those huge health facilities bow to my needs and not their wants. Dr Lebenthal can be brash but it comes with love and compassion.

Dr. Lebenthal and his team take wonderful care of my 88 year old dad. He is both caring and thorough and explains every treatment and option clearly. When my dad was especially sick Dr. Lebenthal provided his cell phone number and stayed in touch regarding my dad's condition. He even spoke to the other specialists treating my dad to make sure dad was getting the best possible help. I'm truly grateful!

How lucky my husband is to be a Veteran in the VA system in Boston. This wonderful, talented physician just operated on him and he is doing quite well. He took the time to know Jack, encourage him pre-operatively to do walking which made his post op care for his surgery more successful. I would recommend Dr Lebenthal to anyone needing a thoracic surgeon. His Nurse Practitioner Cliontine is thoughtful, kind and compassionate

I was referred to Dr. Lebenthal by my pulmonary doctor, I was having trouble breathing. I was gasping for air very time I walked a short distance. Walking up my stairs put me in bed for hours. My quality of life was poor. I was diagnosed with a paralyzed right diaphragm. Dr. Lebenthal performed a diaphragm plication the operation was a success. I can breath, when I take a deep breath I can honestly say I feel great. My life will be a little different no heavy lifting but I can live with that.

Dr Lebenthal and Deidre are amazing. He is clear, conscience and professional. He is also very approachable and caring. He truly listens to you! I had surgery at Good Samaritan hospital in Brockton MA. Although I did have reservations about having major surgery outside of Boston it all turned out great. It’s wonderful service to have locally.

Everything, EVERYTHING, Dr. Abraham Lebenthal expressed in his self description is 100 percent true - and then some! I have likened him to the "Tom Brady of Thoracic surgeons." In October he performed what I would term a difficult and delicate operation on my wife Marian's lung. As a person of faith, I believe God uses the nonpareil skills of Dr. Abraham Lebenthal to perform miracles. Anyone who seeks his expertise is indeed fortunate. Greg Sabine, Brockton, MA

Dr. Lebenthal made the quality of my life improve drastically. After an adult life of suffering with acid reflux and taking omepazole, I am acid free and anti acid pill free. I have never felt better in 40 years.

There has been much negative publicity about patient care at VA hospitals these days. In my opinion, a good portion of it is overblown. My ex husband was diagnosed with esophageal cancer earlier this year when a VA physician saw a small irregularity in my ex's blood work and worked him up. His cancer was due to acid reflux, not smoking. We fortunately were paired up with Dr Lebenthal, an extraordinarily competent thoracic surgeon and a truly dedicated human being. My ex is on the mend. Thank you

I found Dr Lebenthal online at the Boston VA, through another referral. Called the information number listed and it was his cell phone...and he answered! Talked half hour about my husbands recurrent Mesothelioma. Made the appt for consult and flew to Boston 5 days later. He is direct and no-nonsense with his advice. He gave us a direction, we took it, and now my husband is accepted to a clinical trial. Dr L called us a few days later to make sure we were ok with the outcome. Very happy!!

Met Dr. Leb. by accident, due to complications of lung biopsy (not performed by him) and he happened to be on-duty at the hosp. In spite of the non-auspicious beginning I was pleasantly surprised by his knowledge, professionalism and capacity of conveying med concepts in direct + accessible (not patronizing) manner. In all interactions, he left the impression that he genuinely cared about my well-being and never left calls unanswered. If/when I need surgery, he will be the 1st name to consider.
