Dr. Al Sumaquial, MD

I have had a very positive experience working Dr. Sumaquial. He listens, provides referrals when needed and is empathetic and caring. (I have had both in person and Telehealth appointments with Dr. S and I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Sumaquial is the only medical doctor that I have ever discontinued as my primary care physician in over 60 years as a Kaiser member. He was friendly enough, and generally ordered the appropriate lab work for my annual visits during the three and a half years that I was with him, but his obvious and baffling misunderstanding and misdiagnosis (subsequently corrected by his replacement) and poor explanations of my occasional medical issues and needs left me without confidence in his abilities. I was so suspicious of his care that I was willing to take a chance on an unknown quantity as his replacement (who I am still with six years later). I am surprised that he is still allowed in the Kaiser, a system that I am generally satisfied with.

Forgets to submit paperwork and overlooks patient concerns without providing relevant medical explanations

Good bedside manner. Explains everything well.
