Dr. Van Zyl has been my primary care physician for more than 20 years. When I visit his office I feel like I am his only patient and that he knows everything there is to know about my medical history and conditions. The level of service he provides is exemplary.

Knowledgeable but...
Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but Dr Van Zyl comes across as aloof. He's also old school in the sense that he is not collaborative in his approach. Patients are ultimately responsible for their care and should have input in their treatment - not the final word but there s/b discussion. I don't feel like you get that from this doctor. Another big concern for me is that neither he, nor his staff respond to messages sent via the patient portal. Why have a portal, if no one monitors and responds?

I was very impressed with the bedside manner and genuine nature of the physician during my appointment. He sat down next to me and genuinely asked me questions about how I was doing. As a healthcare provider in a time when it's rough to be in our field, I was touched by how genuine he cared for my overall health both mental and physical.
