The Best of the Best
There are no words that truly capture the depth of my gratitude for Dr. Ali Bydon and his team. For months prior to surgery, I had been experiencing major life-changing complications that included intense pain, leg weakness, loss of bodily functions, repeated falls and balance issues. I went into surgery expecting a single complex spinal fusion, only to face an unexpected emergency that required a second fusion at another level. Dr. Bydon did not stop until every issue was addressed, ensuring that my spine was stable and that I had the best possible outcome.Spinal surgery is never easy, but knowing I was in the hands of someone so skilled, dedicated, and compassionate made all the difference. He didn’t just operate—he gave me a second chance at life. The care, attention, and determination he showed in fixing my spine was beyond anything I could have hoped for. Dr. Bydon’s competence resulted in all my bodily functions returning to normal and my back and legs stronger. A huge WIN!

Exceptional surgeon
I was severely limited from doing almost any type of physical activity due to pain from lumbar spinal stenosis. Dr. Ali Bydon performed decompression and diskectomy surgery to address the condition and literally gave me my life back. I've been doing well since the surgery and am doing things I previously had to stop doing because of the stenosis pain. I think of Dr. Bydon with extreme gratitude every single day for what he gave me back. He is not only a skilled and effective surgeon, but he is also an extremely compassionate and conscientious doctor.

Cervical Spine Surgery
I had stenosis of the cervical spine. The MRI looked bad but hadn't changed in 3 years or more and I was still getting around well (riding a Harley, flying a plane, etc.) Dr. Bydon assured me that I would eventually go paralyzed if I didn't have surgery and I trusted JHU surgeons so I went ahead and agreed. All I can do is compare quality of life after surgery with with that before and everything is worse. The surgery turned me into a weak little old man wobbling around with a cane. I was never fully informed on the recovery process ahead of time. Think twice!

One of a kind doctor
our father was given a grim diagnosis of Stage 4 renal cell carcinoma that had metastasized to his spine and given a prognosis of a year at best. We were devasted and didn’t know where to turn. We met many doctors and none of them gave us HOPE until we found Dr. Bydon. Within two days of sending images/scans to your office you personally called us without hesitation and told us to get our father to Johns Hopkins immediately and were more than willing to take on the challenge. He successfully removed 100% of his vascular tumor and gave him more time to spend with his family. Unfortunately since that time he has had yet another spinal tumor. Once again Dr. Bydon did not hesitate to help our dad and family. I have never experienced a doctor who would drop everything and prioritize a patients care on such short notice. He has touched our lives with his brilliance, compassion and courage. He is and extraordinary doctor and human being.

Got my strut back
I had/have an intramedullary spinal cord tumor and cysts that were significantly compressing my spinal cord and causing many debilitating symptoms such as weakness of legs and loss of sensory feel. I was having significant trouble driving, walking, climbing stairs, and my life had drastically changed. I am 25, so I was not prepared to throw my hands up and accept this as my future as all other neurosurgeons had told me, stating that me "remaining the same" would be considered a success. My mother and I came to Dr. Bydon dejected and with very little hope. He immediately told us "we had come to the right place" and all hope was restored. He was the first practitioner that had given us a confident response to my diagnosis, and that was honestly all we needed. We went forward with surgery, and, while he was not able to remove all of the tumor without paralyzing me, he was able to remove all of the cysts, and I am back to normal activities and functionality only 2 months out from surgery.

Late and Not Prepared
My visit was poor in many regards. First he was late over an hour, he was not prepared and didn’t review my MRI, he didn’t review the medical notes I sent, kept repeating questions I already answered, was obsessed with his phone and just not listening. His body was present but his mind was elsewhere. Extremely disappointed. Go elsewhere.

My father had laminectomy surgery with Dr Bydon on 9/7/21. Prior to surgery, he could not walk very far and couldn't stand for longer than a few minutes. He also had pain in his legs that made him miserable. After the surgery, he was able to walk quite a bit and the pain in his legs is gone. I am most appreciative of Dr Byrdon and his skill. My father and I care for my mother and this surgery was literally life changing for us. I was also most appreciative of his staff who did everything they could to help us get this surgery scheduled.

Dr. Bydon is amazing! I arrived at John Hopkins on Sunday, 12/20/2020 with a compression fracture and tumor on my spine. Transferred from another hospital, he had accepted my case and when I arrived there was already a plan in motion for my care. He is without a doubt the most caring and compassionate doctor I've met. I had my surgery with him on Tuesday, 12/22 and came home on Christmas Day. My spinal fusion went well and he referred me to another doctor at John Hopkins who completed by cyberknife treatments in January 2021 to address any leftover tumor tissue. Today, i had my 8 week checkin with him and I'm doing wonderfully well. I am happy to say that I've been pain free since I came home on 12/25. The entire staff that works with him is extremely professional and they truly care about their patients.

I was diagnosed with myelomalachia of the spinal cord in my C-spine. I needed to have spinal surgery soon as I was losing use of my left arm and other problems with balance and pain. I discovered that US News & World Report rates hospitals nationwide every year. They rate Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as having the number one neurosurgery department. To be honest, I was scared, but the surgery went so well, and the results are amazing! The numbness, tingling and pain in my neck, shoulder and left arm is completely gone! I've had 7 surgeries in my life and this 8th surgery, my most serious one by far, done by Dr. Ali Bydon, MD, at Johns Hopkins, was the most pain free, worry free, most comfortable and most successful surgery I've experienced. Dr. Bydon is an amazing surgeon and everyone on his surgical team was so friendly and so professional, I was and am still so impressed with them all. I'm SO happy that I was lucky enough to have Dr. Bydon perform my surgery.

Late Tuesday, my wife drove me to the Hopkins Emergency Dept in critical condition: I hadn't been able to eat, walk or even turn in bed. Reviewing my Xrays the next morning, Dr. Ali Bydon said my spinal cord was almost completely severed. There was no time to lose, in another day I'd be permanenty paralyzed. Even though Dr. Bydon had spent all Wednesday operating on previously scheduled patients, he worked into the night with his neurosurgery team to rescue my spinal cord. Not only did I have osteoporosis from cancer therapy - but a deadly staph infection had eaten through my bones. Dr. Bydon studied my spine for an hour to find where to firmly anchor the 2 long titanium rods, 8 large screws plus a 'cage'. During recovery at Hopkins, I learned that patients fly in from faraway countries to be operated on by Dr. Bydon. Today, I am 4 inches shorter - but I am walking and driving -- and most grateful for the skilled care of one of the world's foremost spinal surgeons.

Don't see this provider! He hadn't read my file, so I had to explain my situation to him, while he looked angry and irritated. Then he said that he could do surgery, and that the appointment was over. I didn't even know what surgery he was talking about! When I asked a few questions about the surgery, he got nastier, and kept talking over me and giving condescending answers. When I asked about less invasive procedures, he had no idea what I was talking about. I have no confidence in his skills, so I will be getting surgery elsewhere.

I broke my neck and was paralyzed from my neck down after a fall and was taken to Hopkins Bayview Hospital. Lucky for me Dr. Bydon was the doctor on call. After operating on me I was still paralyzed. Dr. Bydon was very comforting to me and my family. He answered all of our questions. I am happy to say after a lot of physical and occupational therapy I am walking again. I would recommend Dr. Bydon anytime. I am forever grateful to him.

Dr. Bydon is a wise and wonderful neurosurgeon. I saw him at Johns Hopkins and after careful evaluation of my scoliosis, he referred me to Dr. Brian Neuman for the spine deformity portion of my care. Lucky me! I now had 2 top surgeons caring for me. Dr. Neuman did 2 of my surgeries and Dr. Bydon worked with him on one. Great to have such a fabulous team looking out for me. I am very pleased with the outcome. When I first saw these surgeons I was walking bent over my walker. I am straighter without being over corrected...something my previous surgeon neglected to do. These surgeons worked well together and treated me with kindness, skill and care.

Dr. Bydon performed surgery on my spine in October of 2019. He, his associates, and his office support staff have been professional, kind, supportive, and highly competent at every step. He provided extensive information beforehand which greatly calmed my concerns about such serious surgery. And, best of all, the surgery was 100% successful.

I had spinal surgery with Dr. Bydon on Dec 10th, 2019. My experience with Dr. Bydon, (and his team) from diagnosis to post op visit was a wonderful example of what quaility health care should be. He was compassionate about my pain, clear in his description of the medical diagnosis and patient with my questions about the surgery. The results of my surgery are wonderful. At a time when pain creates discomfort and anxiety, I felt that Dr. Bydon and his team not only provided excellent medical care but also compassionate support. Thank you Dr. Bydon!
