While I appreciate the expertise of my lymphedema doctor, I often feel that our interactions are more focused on textbook cases than on my individual experience. I don't feel that she truly understands me as a person or takes into account what I am saying and how I am presenting. It would greatly improve my experience if she considered my unique circumstances and symptoms more carefully, rather than relying solely on general guidelines.

Dr. Mixon is my best UVA specialist experience to date. She is kind, thorough, and takes time with me. She expresses sincere concern and a desire to optimally support my healthcare and preferences. She clearly explains treatment/care options and seeks my input. She also takes the time to discuss side effects/risks with any medication, something I find few providers take the time to do. I feel very confident in the care received and feel like I am treated like a partner in my care. I wish anyone navigating breast cancer at UVA could have the opportunity to see Dr. Mixon. My appointments with her have felt like what healthcare should aspire to ... I feel supported, informed, and cared for.
