She impresses me more every visit.
She is super competent which may put some people off. I have had issues, hospital visits and such and they call me the next business day to set up a visit very shortly after. When I need something, she is there for me. She has told me I can call if I need to.Her staff is amazing and friendly. Christine is a top notch nurse who cares and it shows. I had some issues and yelled at/was rude to the receptionist Louise twice and she totally understood and treats me like a human even after. I apologized. If the rest of NVRH was run like this, maybe it wouldn't be a hospital of last resort.

Dry sense of humor….
I am a very experienced nurse, and know for a fact that Dr. VanStraten is smart as a whip. She has a very dry sense of humor, which might come off negatively at first…until you realize it and that she cares very much for her patients on-goingly. Every visit she tries to find something she can help you with. She spends as much time as needed. She is a great doctor for those who have ongoing chronic issues. I highly recommend.

Accompanied my mother to her visit following MRI, she (Dr.) sighed frequently t/o visit, when my mother asked a few questions she responded with: "I'll ask the questions", "I know what tests you've had" (not in a kind tone of voice). My mother had filled out a depression screening and started giving more detail during the office visit the Dr. responded with " I don't do that". (I suggest not sending the screening form to fill out if you aren't going to address the responses.) Overall she seemed exasperated that we were there and was rude in her tone. I got the impression that we were wasting her time. She thanked us for coming it, but it seemed like a mandatory response and not at all sincere.

Dr. van Straten is kind, witty, and concerned about my health and well being to a degree I have rarely experienced in 40 years of being a patient of many neurologists. I have had nothing but positive and helpful encounters.

her staff is highly dysfunctional, and therefore(?) she does not respond to calls or script renewals, and, no follow-up explanation is offered why. she does not appear to understand proper tritiation on psychoactive drugs, or tapering off, for that matter. without informing me of a balance due of under $100, her office manager assigned a balance to a collection agency, when it would’ve been paid quickly and easily had I been informed.

I want to thank Dr.Van Straten for her professionalness at my appointment today. She talked directly to me. And though this may seem like no big deal , unfortunately my experience has often been otherwise. Granted I'm cognitively challenged in some situations. But I AM the patient. And my incredible, wonderful husband is always by my side supporting the appointment and information. Dr. Van Sraten is obviously very knowledgeable and her suggestions made very good sense. Nothing too aggressive.
