Maybe a good surgeon, but not much of a human
Dr. Gutow was an arrogant, patronizing, I-can't-be-bothered-with-you surgeon, and I recommend you find someone else. He may know a lot, but medicine is more than that!

Grumpy, Harried, Impatient
He may be a good surgeon--I can't speak to that--but he is not pleasant to interact with. He seemed in a bad mood, told me he didn't have time for one of the conditions I was referred for and scolded me for how it took him 20 min to get up to speed looking at my notes from UCSF (which were available through Care Everywhere). He addressed one of my problems and while it may be that the main problem with my hands does not have good treatment options, the way he presented was brusque, dismissive and discouraging. He's not a doctor you want to hear bad news from because he is not sympathetic or supportive.

The local orthopedic doctors sent me to Dr. Gutow as it was a complicated surgery. He did an amazing job. Really appreciated that he took a lot of care with my incision as it was my outer elbow. You cannot even see it!! Very through and took the time to answer all my questions before and after surgery!
