Horrible experience
My brother in law was referred to Dr Weitzel by his neurologist. We finally were able to contact them ( he uses a walker and can no longer drive…he lives in independent living at Gardens of North Port). Waited 6 weeks and were only able to get an 8 AM appointment. We filled out bunches of paperwork prior to going and they had received much info from his referring physician. Upon arrival we were told we needed to complete “different “ paperwork. Upon completion we were asked for a copay and made it. After waiting for an hour we were told Dr Weitzel doesn’t see any patients that live in a “facility “…They were unable to refund our copay and said they would refer it to their financial department. We have wasted months and my brother in law has issues and NEEDS to see a urologist ASAP.What a horrible experience. Apparently “ first do no harm “ is not something Dr Weitzel believes in.

Wonderful doctor
I was referred to Dr. Weitzel and was very impressed with his knowledge & plethora of resources for my husband. He took care of him and provided me with the tools to help nurse him back to health. However, the New manager named Kathy was rude, abrupt & kept referring to patients as “sweetie” in a patronizing tone. She was condescending and very dismissive with my questions which i did not experience from the previous manager.

UnSatisfactory patient care
I saw Dr Weitzel one time; was given a second appointment 30 days from initial appointment. I called his office and spoke with his nurses both times during this 30 day wait time for 2nd appointment. I informed nurses, I was experiencing “Chronic urinary retention” every night; was getting up every hour throughout every night with an urgency to drain bladder; difficulty doing so. I was put on hold both calls; it was my impression, they went and spoke with Dr Weitzel both times. The first call, I was told my appointment was only in 2 weeks. My second call response from Nurse was “As long as you have a little urine discharge, you’re on the right road.” I suffered continuously the entire month; he was not going to see me whatsoever before the 30th day. Totally Unsatisfactory in my opinion.

Great Doctor
Dr Weitzel has been my husband's urologist for 14 years. My husband was referred to him when diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Weitzel saw him immediately, communicated effectively and professionally with him, scheduled him for surgery within 2 days, removed the tumor perfectly, did appropriate levels of radiation based upon the cancer and my husband's personal physical profile. My husband followed up with visits every 6 months initially, then every year. Dr Weitzel always treated my husband with the level of caution, wisdom, skill and care that he would treat his own father. I attended most appointments. His staff was prompt and courteous, and Dr. Weitzel was not only patient with taking the time to answer any questions that my husband would have, but with my questions as well (I ask more questions than my husband). I cannot say enough good things about Dr Weitzel's treatment of my husband during that ordeal and have always been thankful that he was the Dr. my husband was sent to.

I was being prepared for surgery and told details about post-surgery that Dr. Weitzel didn't explain to me during the office visit to schedule the surgery. I was upset that I wasn't properly informed about post-surgery pain and care. Weitzel then refused to do the surgery.

I changed doctors after interactions with staff and Dr. Weitzel. The staff always seems overworked and understaffed, short fuses when you call to get problems fixed that were created by the office. Dr. Weitzel placed me on a medication and when I went to another urologist that doctor informed me of risks and unknown side effects of long-term use of the medication, and then diagnosed me correctly with the real cause. I have seen him speak poorly to his office employees and always seems to want to rush you out of the office.

I had an appointment with Dr Weitzel on 1/15/2021. I agree with the other reviewers: he has poor bedside manners. I asked him to write down some instructions for me, since I have a very poor memory. He acted very annoyed with me. I have a follow-up visit with him on 6/15/2021. I'll have to see how he acts this time.

This doctor lacks empathy, compassion, and accountability for anything he does. He ordered a CT scan for my kidney stones and did a procedure that caused me more problems than I had prior. I now have to urinate every 15 min and he told me that must be something else- he did what he was supposed to do. He has a nurse assistant remove the stint- someone not qualified in the least. And the biggie- wait for it... My CT scan had said I have cancer that is in 3 places in my abdomen. He never told me and just charged my insurance company over $20,000 for the procedure that made me worse. He didn't even have the decency to tell me I had cancer- this man does not care about his patients- he does not deserve to be a doctor- I wouldn't let him touch my dog.

In February I had surgery to remove a large kidney stone. After a week of getting better, the pain got worse. Was told this pain was normal but it continued to get worse. I kept my apt and tried to explain the pain, but was told, “I did my job. If you continue to be in pain you need to see another doctor. You are no longer my problem.” I left crying and went straight to the ER and was diagnosed with mild right hydronephrosis and hydroureter. Don’t go see this dr, he only cares about quick money.

When i scheduled a new patient consult with Dr Weitzel have gone through quite a few urologists in the last six years because of my diagnosis. I was looking for someone who would care about me while providing the utmost treatment possible. Dr Weitzel was not only exceptional but his staff was very impressive. From scheduling to medical record requests to the nurses providing extraordinary care i am happy to have found a Dr who makes a difference close to home.
