Arthritis is not simply about Drugs or Surgery
Traveled to Mayo Jacksonville to get an innovative view of arthritis condition only to have medical staff prescribe hot wax and discuss meds ! No mention was made of diet or controlling inflammatory food or liquid intake despite some patient prompting. The late Dr. Robert Stroud had better advice on this correlation 20 years ago! After this disappointing visit, insurance provider Florida Blue urged participation with a program promoting a keto-type diet plan which prohibited many of the inflammatory intakes that these professionals and Mayo should be discussing, and the arthritis symptoms greatly improved. There is more to autoimmune disease than simply noting it, throwing drugs or surgery at it, and moving on to the next patient and Mayo can do better than this! To a large degree, we are what we eat! A more holistic or "big picture" approach is definitely needed here and Mayo should excel in this, as their GI department did a few years ago with another family member !

He figured out what was wrong with me after 2 years of MD to MD dealing with symtoms I didn't understand were connected. I saw him for many years and we tinkered with things and dealt with symtoms. He was always wonderful and understanding. I am now in remission, and he is my hero :)

I am sure Dr. Abril's credentials are good, but I did not have a positive experience with him today. I have had a trusted rheumatologist for many years in a small town who shows a lot more savvy and listening skills, and I trust him. Dr. Abril did not go over my labs or offer any helpful information. My visit was a complete waste of time, and I would definitely not return.

Went in for colonoscopy and identified I had AFIB. After starting medication, shoulders, arms and hips became extremely sore. Had difficulty even getting into the car. Thought body was having a reaction to the medication. Doctors switched to different meds but no improvement. I was convinced it was the new medication and pretty much felt the doc thought I was crazy. After 4 months and trying different blood thinners, I was referred to Dr Abril, who diagnosed me as having polymyalgia rheumatica. He prescribed prednisone and symptoms were gone by day 2 and I was back to my old self. After 5 months, off prednisone meds. Dr Abril is my hero.
