Dr. Anvy Nguyen, MD

Dr Nguyen is quite literally the best physician I've ever had, and I do not say this lightly because I am a physician myself. When I received my diagnosis, I was lost, scared, and confused. Dr. Nguyen spent an hour with me and my family during our initial appointment--explaining all of my options and making sure we were very comfortable with our final decision. She greeted me with a hug at every appointment and before my surgery. Her very presence made me feel like I was in very capable hands. She called me on a Sunday to let me know that my margins were clear and that she had resected all of the concerning areas. She has the technique of a plastic surgeon, and she was able to close my incisions in such a way that they are not even visible. This is no small feat because I am prone to keloids. Dr. Nguyen sets the standard in every possible way medically, but most importantly, she sets the standard as an amazing human. I recommend her without reservation to anyone reading this review.

I had 2 previous lumpectomies done with another surgeon that still ended up with me having cancer. Not knowing what was going on and why this was happening Dr. Nguyen took the time with just me and explained absolutely everything. What happened during the first 2 surgeries and why. Then what our next surgery would be. Absolutely amazing. So comforting how much she cares. I was told the previous surgeon was the best but after having both I regret not having Nguyen from the start.

I saw Dr. Nguyen in February of 2022 after a very long day of tests. I was so scared because my day had taken such a strange turn, from what I thought would be a routine examine to multiple tests, and finally a biopsy. When Dr. Nguyen came to deliver my results she did so in a way that made me feel cared for, respected, and like I mattered to her as a patient. I have had good doctor's before, but never someone that made me feel like they actually cared about me, and weren't rushing to get out of the room. She explained my results in detail, followed by possible next steps, all with so much kindness and respect. I have never forgotten that experience with her, and I can't thank her enough for her care on such a terrifyiing day. I hope she never loses this special quality as she continues to excel in her career. I highly recommend her to anyone and everyone!

Dr. Nguyen was my surgeon when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not only is she a gifted surgeon, she's an absolutely amazing person! She spent so much time with me and my husband explaining everything about my diagnosis. She comforted me when I was terrified, helped me understand when I was confused, answered question after question (and drew pictures - which I've shared with friends who were diagnosed after me which helped them!), called me back/checked in with me, and laughed at my jokes. She treated me with the utmost respect and I would be honored to call her my friend. I was devastated when she moved away from Boston, but I wish her nothing but the best at her new hospital. Though I wish no woman had to suffer this horrible disease of breast cancer, I feel truly blessed that I was treated by Dr. Nguyen. There is no better surgeon than Dr. Nguyen!

You will never ever find a more knowledgeable, caring, patient, kind, efficient, and thorough doctor. Dr. Nguyen looks at you, not through you. During my breast cancer journey, she was always accessible and caring, answering my every question, calming my fears, and really hearing me. With her as my doctor, I stayed strong during my appointments and subsequent surgery. After I was marked up by the plastic surgeon on the day of my double mastectomy, Dr. Nguyen who was also in attendance to greet me before the surgery, was walking away to prepare for it, and turned around and came back to me and without saying anything, hugged me. At that point, I knew she really cared and would see me through my journey. It was a success and I am well. She will be missed. I stopped by her office and heard she had left. The nurse said how much she is missed there. That is a testament to Dr. Nguyen's greatness. Consider yourself to be the luckiest person if you have her as your doctor.

I have been working with Dr. Nguyen for two years, and cannot have been more happy. She is an amazing and noteworthy surgeon with vast knowledge and expertise. As important are her compassion and sensitivity when working with patients. I looked forward to my visits with her and knew that I was in good hands. I am very, very sad that she is leaving the Newton Wellesley Hospital system. She is my most favorite surgeon.

Dr. Nguyen, I wish you joy and fulfillment in your passion to support women's health and well-being in the life-changing work that you do. I consider it a huge gift that my unexpected experience with breast cancer was handled under your support. Thank you so very much.

Oh Dr. Nguyen, I feel so lucky that you were at Newton-Wellesley when I needed you. In particular, you did such a good job of listening and responding to my specific needs and values. Also, after one visit with you, my husband was so much calmer about the surgery and he became a really good support rather than someone more anxious than I am! You were so incredibly helpful to us. I met Dr. Nguyen when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2022. She explained all my options, with knowledge, detail and compassion. The surgery option I chose was a bit complicated but done with skill! I highly recommend Dr Nguyen... I will miss her greatly.

Back in early 2020, with an unfortunate diagnosis of breast cancer (fortunately stage 1), I was extremely fortunate to be assigned to Dr. Nguyen. On our first meeting, she took me through VERY detailed steps and educational information on what was going on. She was amazing and her bedside manner impeccable. She put me at ease. In March 2020, she performed my lumpectomy. My recovery was great and cannot tell when the stitches were. In follow up visits, Dr. Nguyen was terrific and very caring. What a great doctor to have.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Nguyen this past year when I learned that I had breast cancer. Dr. Nguyen met with my partner and me and went over (in detail) my options for surgery (including beautiful detailed sketches). Dr. Nguyen performed a lumpectomy on my right breast, removing the cancer in such a way that my breast is cancer-free and looks beautiful. Dr Nguyen is a skilled and meticulous surgeon. At the same time she is warm and personable and communicates to her patients how much she cares about our full recovery. I highly recommend her!

I first met with Dr. Nguyen prior to a recommendation for breast surgery. From the moment she sat down with me, she showed me her caring nature, her wisdom, her willingness to explain everything with words and drawings, her commitment even to me. As she answered my questions, she made me feel completely reassured and at ease, and totally willing to put myself into her capable hands. Her surgical skills are utterly amazing. I felt no pain, I had no bleeding, there is no scar. I think of her every day with gratitude for her presence in my life. And as I speak with others in the hospital where she treated me, I hear nothing but adoration for her not only as a surgeon, as a doctor of oncology, but as a woman, a human being interacting with other professionals and patients. Everyone who knows her mentions her respectfulness toward all others, her attentiveness to their needs, her obvious pleasure in her work, and how loved she is. There aren't enough words. She is truly wonderful.

Dr. Nguyen took care of my breast cancer surgery. She is extremely intelligent, caring and patient. She always took the time to explain everything about my procedures. I didn’t want anybody else but her in charge of my surgeries. I can’t explain in words the trust I felt with Dr. Nguyen as soon as I met her. She always answered my concerns via calls, texts or messages. She will always be my angel doctor.

Dr. Nguyen is among the most caring and competent doctors I have ever encountered. She made my journey through breast surgery as comforting as it could possibly be. She also was so knowledgable about the latest medical options and patient with her explanation of my options. Her surgical skills were impeccable. Dr Nguyen made me feel so comfortable and I could tell that she takes care of her patients. She took time with me explaining everything I should be doing being proactive with my family history. I have never felt rushed at any of her appointments. I was very happy with my surgery she did an amazing job.

I am so happy for you about your new position. But I must say at the same time I am sad that you are leaving our cancer community. I will miss you. Dr. Nguyen is the most skilled and caring surgeon that I’ve ever had! Her attention to detail, and her patience with me regarding my surgical options and post surgical radiation have saved my life. She is positive & dedicated and she treated me as if I was her only patient. She even called me on a Saturday evening to give me good news, so I wouldn’t worry over the weekend. I can never thank her enough.
