Student
I would not recommend for college students or for children. He is inconsiderate to individual student needs, more so females, and patients.

Dr. Robinson Hung Up On Me During My Appointment!
Telehealth
Dr. Robinson exhibited an anti-male victim bias toward me. As I was literally confiding in him that I've been a trauma victim for 10 years, he became angry and defensive with me. I asked him as politely as possible whether he believed me or not. He refused to answer, or offer ANY type of support whatsoever after I asked him this. He became angry with me, and literally hung up on me 3 minutes into the telehealth session. Later he had his assistant call back and explain that they were now even dropping me as a client. I was shocked. As a male victim of domestic abuse, I feel very strongly that this would NOT have happened if I were a female. Dr. Robinson appears to have discriminated against me based on my gender. I do not recommend anyone see a provider who refuses to support his own patients and instead treats trauma victims with skepticism. I was paying him for his help, and his help only added to my trauma to make my condition worse. 20% of domestic abuse victims are men.

Dr. Robinson is intelligent, caring, respectful, honest, and reliable. He is different from any other physician or medical provider, in that he doesn't just give you a prescription and problem solved. Dr. Robinson helps you have the tools you need to really do some hard work and become the best person you can be.

I went to seek help for anxiety, to get evaluated, and this doctor is the worst I have ever met. He was yelling at me and was frustrated with me asking me how he can help - how would I know he is a doctor. This was the most traumatic doctor visit of my entire life. I had to leave the appointment just to get away from him.

While Dr Ara Robinson may be an adequate psychiatrist; the front office staff at Iowa Psychiatry is atrocious. We asked the doctor's office to work on a referral for us to go to the Mayo Clinic in November and we still do not have the referral in hand in March. The front office person told our insurance company that she wasn't going to do it because it was too much work. My advice is to steer clear of this organization & find a more helpful & caring one that truly wants to help their patients.

Best doctor ever in his field !! I had been diagnosed with cancer. I already had surgery and had begun chemotherapy. When I started having a difficult time coping with all that was happening to me. Dr Robinson was referred to me by my oncologist. From the first time I met him I felt so at ease. I could tell him anything. I continued to see him for the next five years for various reasons. I recommend him highly.
