Wonderful Surgeon, truly caring and one of a kind
Went to a couple of doctors to have a hernia removed (5 months) , no such luck. HPN began looking for surgeons, and found Dr. Rives. Dana is his right hand lady and they are wonderful. The minute I walked in, I felt instantly relieved and knew that I had found the perfect doctor. Seems there are very few around like Dr. Rives, but when you go to him, you will see he is one of the rare ones still working. Much respect to Dr. Rives and Dana.

This past Friday marked the second hernia operation I’ve had performed by Dr. Rives. That fact, alone, is quite a good testimony. The first was a navel hernia 7 years ago, and this new one was a right groin hernia. His anesthesiologist this time was Dr. Porter. Both doctors (just like 7 years ago when I left another 5-star review back then) were highly professional in their demeanor (“bedside manner) and physical performance results. Both times, I have experienced great results and nearly no pain at all!

Dr. Rives is amazing. During COVID, he performed an exploratory bowel surgery on my father to resolve an obstruction and diagnose a mass that showed up on a CT Scan. It wound up being caused by an adhesion from a prior Hernia surgery and he cleared the obstruction. Dr. Rives was incredibly responsive and explained the situation in a patient, easy to understand manner. He met me outside St. Rose after the surgery and took me through the details of the situation. He answered all of my many questions and it was easy to tell how much pride he takes in being thorough in his approach. He visited my dad almost every day in the hospital and then followed up with me either with a call or a text when there were updates. During this time period, visitors are strictly prohibited due to COVID, so Dr. Rives availability and continued diagnostics on my father's recovery were incredibly appreciated by our family. He is a rockstar.

Extremely pleased with the care and final results for my recent hernia surgery. Dr. Rives was very professional and explained the entire procedure from beginning to recovery. Dana in his office took great care of me and addressed all of my concerns - and please note that I am a BIG BABY when it comes to things like this. I feel that Dr. Rives is the best - why go to anyone else?

Friendly Doc but left me with paperwork after an emergency appendectomy that said no restrictions.I fully understand this day and age it’s a quick recovery but how could you go back same day af.Didnt call my family after surgery like he said he would as I was alone. I have to be able to lift 70 pds at my work.called his office and the woman on the phone was the rudest most condescending person I have ever spoke with. I will do my follow up with my own Doc instead of dealing with her.

Dr.Rives is not a very concerned doctor. I received an infection 3 days after hernia surgery and the doctor refused to give me an antibiotic. He also refused to give me any more time off of work to heal. (1 week is the most he will give and I am a heavy equipment operator) The office suggested I go to the ER. My abdomen swelled and oozed pus. 10 days after the surgery I went to my primary care doctor who treated me properly with antibiotics and 2 more weeks off of work, thankfully.

Going in for an operation is never on the top of my list, but I have to say after meeting Dr. Rives for the exam and consult he put me at ease. Dr Rives takes the time to listen and explain without rushing as he wants you to understand everything. Even when I called him the next day when I thought of something, he called me back the same day. After surgery he called me the next day to see how I was doing. This is a Dr. who cares, and I would highly recommend him.
