Overweight they don’t treat
After two months of preparation, visits with my cardiologist, primary care physician, lab work and a month of preop therapy, his nurse practitioner (Sherry), advised me the surgery would be postponed because I didn’t meet the criteria. I wasn’t able to lose the weight they requested…yes I’m a big, Beautiful woman and I can not walk or exercise without excruciating pain. I cancelled the surgery and as I walked away Sherry said “call when you need us”, I said, “I need you now “. I’m sure he is a very good surgeon, but I think they are both biased towards overweight people. Did I cry…yes all day, but I’m over it, quality of life, which I had hoped to improve….well looking limited. I’m a retired Surgical nurse, and I know I would have done well.

Appointment for Meniscus review and surgery
My husband had a knee replacement several years ago and had a wonderful experience with Dr. Kaper so when I tore my meniscus last month I immediately thought of him to review my X-rays and MRI results. On 21st of Sept. Thursday, I called to make an appointment. No one answered but the recording assured me I would receive a call back by the end of the day. By Friday I still had not had a call back, Monday I called and was told I would receive a call by 10AM. No CALL!!!! I called Dr. Corey Nelson, and had an appointment the very next day and surgery is scheduled in another week. I did finally get a call back from Dr. Kapers office on Monday Oct 2, almost 3 weeks after I initially called. When I tried to explain my frustration alll she would say was, 'Okay thank you'. Dr. Kaper may be a wonderful surgeon but his staff is the most unprofessional and rude that I have ever had to deal with.

Excellent experience
1st knee replacement done by different orth-in pain and PT for months, Yavapai hospital stay unpleasant. 2nd replacement (different knee) done by Dr. Kaper at Scottsdale. On post op check (5-7 days) I was walking without any assistance, gave doc back pain pills. Scottsdale Hospital stay was pleasant. Dr. Kaper was a bit prideful, but all good surgeons are.

Best experience for my total knee.
Coming from L.A. with a lot of doc’s to choose from to Prescott meant I had to choose carefully. My wife did most of the research but we both felt Kaper was the best choice. We wanted to have the surgery in Scottsdale to take advantage of the partial robotic procedure. Working with his staff was great. Yes, scheduling was tight, but Jean was great to work with. She made sure to follow up with next steps. Wes was straight to the point on what to expect. Rehab being the most important thing after surgery. And Dora was just the best at making sure I didn’t stress too much. All of them detailed exactly what to expect, from pain management to good and bad days. Dr. Kaper was very attentive in detailing what he would do. He took the time to explain the procedure and what my wife could expect post op. I waited 6 weeks post op to post this so that I could give my honest opinion. I worked in healthcare all my career and dealt with a lot of surgeons. Kaper has a great practice.

Arrogant and uncaring
Dr Kaper was much more concerned with trying to convince me to get the now proven to be unsafe and ineffective Covid vaccine than he was about the staph infection I incurred under his care (or lack thereof). After surgery I developed a potentially serious infection and he never once bothered to talk to me about it even after multiple calls. I finally had to contact another physician and incurred more surgeries. Thank God I never took his unqualified advice and took any vaccines.

Extremely Disappointed
I have had both knees replaced by Dr Kaper. The replacements done by Dr Kaper were successful. However, the experience with the office personnel and billing has been a total nightmare. With the exception of Dora in the Prescott Valley office. She was always on top of things. The problems with billing began from my first visit in Feb of 2021 and are ongoing to this day. Rebecca the office manager has been telling my all along not to worry, I will not own anything. My deductible had been met and I should not of owed anything. I am at a loss of what to do. I would not recommend Dr Kaper due to his association with Honor Health and his office personnel>

Dr Kaper performed a partial knee replacement went well. I have had shoulder and hip replacements with other doctors and they always saw me personally. Made an appointment to see Dr Kaper a month ago to discuss knee, hip and shoulder received a call informing me I would see a Physicians Assistant 8 days before app. Moving to another provider; this is like making an appointment with Dave Stockton for putting lessons and getting his caddy.

Former patient
I had an appointment regarding my right knee with Dr. Kaper on June 29th at 4:00 pm. I scheduled that appointment in May, over the phone with his office team, who sent me for an x-ray in preparation for the appointment. I arrived before 4:00 and was told that they had no record of my appointment. However, they had all the notes regarding my Right knee, which I gave to the receptionist when I made my call, and they had my x-ray results, which they would not share with me over the phone. No one apologized for the mistake. Instead, staff said the office manager would have to approve fitting me in. Which she did 15 minutes later. Half way thru my 1 hour and 45 minute wait in a room, I approached staff and asked when I would be seen. I was told that other people were waiting ahead of me and I would be seen after them. No one bothered to check and see how long I actually had to wait. After 1.45 hours, and no one checking in on me, I did not feel I should have to wait any longer. I left.

Office staff was terrible. The man answering the phone was curt and rude. He instructed me to have my X-rays sent to them and they would be reviewed and I would get a call from them to book an appointment. Had my X-rays sent to them as instructed. No communication at all. After several phone calls from me they still could not confirm that they had reviewed my X-rays. After waiting two weeks I still cannot get an appointment. Dr was highly recommended but I should have looked at the ratings first. Very bad experience.

Really had great surgical experience with Dr. Kaper. However agree with previous review--office staff is aweful. Made followup appt for today 11:55. Had order for x-ray prior. So my question if we have order for x-ray how can you tell us the appt we scheduled end of April was for June and not today!! Horrible service. Need to address 3 uncaring front desk staff!!

The worst office management I have ever encountered. I had shoulder surgery and from that point on, making an appointment as required and paying a bill has been impossible. It is impossible to talk to a living person. Leave a call back number and name and you will not be called back. Some computer keeps scheduling follow up appointments and texting me without knowing my schedule. I have been unable to keep the appointments. One time this computer scheduled me for a day they were moving the office and the computer had to cancel and then re-schedule. I am unable to reach the billing department, scheduler, front desk or any person in this office. Dr Kaper may be a good surgeon, but there are many excellent surgeons in AZ.

Dr. Kaper corrected a previous hip replacement that had left me with a 5cm. leg discrepancy which caused problems with balance and pain and complications due to several spinal fusions. His professionalism, knowledge, experience and compassion are exceptional as also is his staff. I recommend him without reservations.

Dr performed Total Knee Replacement in late January 2020...I had suffered for years ... I had reached a point I was almost crippled and couldn’t walk... I was concerned on my surgery? Would I recovery ? Walk normal? Excellent... he did a superb surgery.. his philosophy on recovery... his Zipline for closure of incision! Wonderful! He recommended I do PT before surgery! Had I not... would not had the success I have had in my recovery! He straightened my leg... He is the best! I am 100% in knee rotation ... & straightening no gap...it was painful as they tell you... then all of sudden by 5 weeks it starts to all come together as he said!!! the Home Health nurse & Pt were excellent! I am walking normal and recovering nicely!!!Thank you Dr. Kaper! Of course.. he is from Chicago & a Cubs Fan! Go cubs! Thank you again!

Had anterior THR in 2013 and have had nothing but problems ever since. Dr. Kaper was less than forthcoming with me and clearly did not want to take the time and effort to deal with my surgical problems. Going on 7 years of extreme discomfort and the pain will probably force me to have revision surgery somewhere else this year.

I am very remis in writing this review, had my hips replaced back in 2015 and 16. The man is a magician! My surgery was to replace the initial hips done by a not so good surgeon in Chicago. My new neighbor in AZ was a recovery room nurse at Thompson Peak who recommended him. My new joints are just like the ones God gave me.

Dr. Kaper was recommended to me by another medical professional when I was contemplating a hip replacement. He is excellent....I would recommend him unconditionally. His staff is efficient and they still follow up with me annually to see how everything is doing....Had a full right hip replacement 2 years ago and everything is great.
