Doctor Review: Dr. Parikh Rating: ????? I recently had an unfortunate experience with Dr. Parikh and feel compelled to share my concerns regarding his approach to psychiatric care, evaluation process, and overall professionalism. Diagnosis and Evaluation Dr. Parikh conducted my psychiatric evaluation over just two sessions, each lasting less than 5 minutes. During these brief sessions, he asked only nine questions that seemed unrelated to my main health concerns. Based on this limited interaction, he diagnosed me with depression and narcissistic traits, suggesting medication for depression. This diagnosis felt rushed and inappropriate, as I have no history of depression, nor does my family. I left feeling the evaluation was too brief and lacked depth to provide a reliable diagnosis. Prescribing Practices Dr. Parikh’s recommendation to start depression medication felt premature, given the minimal evaluation. Given my lack of history with such conditions, I was surprised and concerned by his suggestion. I questioned whether his recommendation was driven by patient needs or possibly external influences, which left me uncomfortable about the objectivity of his prescribing practices. Extended Stay and Poor Communication I voluntarily attended the mental health facility for a specific issue unrelated to depression. However, Dr. Parikh extended my stay without consent, citing uncertainty about my condition and indicating he’d consult a social worker about my discharge. Despite my follow-ups, I received no updates, and on the third day, he unexpectedly recommended another week’s stay. This lack of communication and the abrupt suggestion for an extended stay left me feeling trapped and anxious. Unprofessional Behavior and Intimidation Dr. Parikh’s demeanor felt dismissive and confrontational, and his attitude created a hostile environment. At one point, he implied he could testify against me in a way that would affect my child custody if subpoenaed, which felt like a coercive threat. Additionally, he hinted that my stay could be further extended if I did not comply with his directives, which made me feel more like an inmate than a patient. Overall Patient Experience Throughout my interactions, I felt disregarded, unsupported, and, at times, coerced. Dr. Parikh’s lack of empathy and communication left me deeply concerned about his approach to mental health care. His intimidating tactics were unsettling, especially in a setting where patients should feel safe and heard. I am sharing this experience in hopes of encouraging a more compassionate, thorough approach to patient care in mental health settings. I urge anyone considering Dr. Parikh as their psychiatrist to proceed with caution.
