Helped our son recover from depression and anxiety
We’ve been working with Dr. Engwall for the past two years. His genetic testing caught our son’s vulnerability to rapid cycling bipolar disorder, something that can be brought on by the use of SSRI medication. When we first met with Dr. Engwall we had just started our son on Prozac through another psychiatrist. Dr. Engwall was able to catch the warning signs early and based on his genetic testing he recommended we try an alternate medication that has worked extremely well. We also went through 3 rounds of neurofeedback, which helped our son’s executive functioning issues. Dr. Engwall is a thoughtful, caring psychiatrist. He is definitely busy and we have had a few communication glitches but once we got on a regular schedule of check ins every two months, and got used to his scheduling/communication system everything has been running smoothly. We highly recommend Dr. Engwall, especially if your child has treatment resistant depression. He has been a lifesaver, literally.

Our kids both saw Dr. Engwall (and so did my friend who recommended him). She has seen a number of psychiatrists and Dr Engwall was more helpful than any of them. We feel we're always learning something new. My kids' lives are literally transformed! My friends can't believe the change. They haven't needed any medication. Herbs and neurofeedback helped though it took some time. It sounds like the other reviewer hasn't been to see a child/adolescent psychiatrist before. They are expensive, but finding a good one is a worthwhile investment.

He does do some interesting testing to help determine what kind of medication to try. Both genetic and eeg, etc. That part is good. But I often felt he didn't read his notes well enough from one appointment to the next. Time spent in the appointments often did not seem very constructive. So initially he seemed great but over time not so much. He is out of network and prohibitively expensive. There isn't really any office staff, except for someone who does billing off site- she is not very great.
