Dr. Somer is very knowledgeable in his field but his bedside manner is sorely lacking. He keeps you waiting for a very long time with no apology. He never looks at the patients, always looking at the computer. No personality or empathy. Have to pull information out of him. We didn't feel like he was upfront with us about condition. We saw his nurse practitioner more often than him (which we preferred). Heather Greene gave us the best treatment we received from West Clinic. She was excellent at her job. She was very caring and responded immediately if I emailed her with a concern. Also, his nurse Tyler was excellent. Dr. Somer cancelled our first 2 appointments. We asked to see someone else and they would not let us. Wish I had insisted!

He is certainly very knowledgable but his bedside manner is horrible. Having been in the medical field for 50 years plus having been on the journey with several family members with a diagnosis of cancer, this gentleman was the coldest, non caring dr I have ever met. Long waits with no apologies and no eye contact with pt because he is too busy looking at his computer. Appt might last 15 min; and if you ask a question, he responds as if you are stupid for even asking. Went for a 2nd opinion at MD Anderson and it was like night and day. On the other hand, his nurse Tyler is the best. He treats the pt like they are the most important person in the world- sits down and talks with you like he has all the time in the world. Knowledge is a good thing but medicine is about treating the whole pt-not just the physical symptoms.

Excellent. He listened and confirmed plant based nutrition was the best plan of action in my case. He reviewed my pathology report, past medical history, family, genetics, so I am comfortable with my prognosis.

Dr. Somer did not seem to care to pursue what my other Dr.'s had told me. Did not do any tests and made me feel like a complete Idiot as to why I was there. Did not even ask me what problems I was having. I would not refer a dog to see this man. I hate to think my Insurance has to pay him a penny!!

He is a genuinely carrying doctor. He is direct with what is going on and help you to understand your options. Dr. Somer is a good listener not sitting at the edge of his seat as if he has a plane to catch. During trying times of major health challenges in having to deal with Cancer, Dr. Somer is the one to have at your bedside.

The office staff and assistants are wonderful, but Dr. Somer is HORRIBLE. Not only does he make you wait ALL day to see you, but when it is time for him to speak with you, he is too busy rushing out the door to listen to you. He lacks compassion and respect for his patients, and I used to dread going to his appointments. I finally wised up and switched doctors. I'd give him zero stars if possible.
