Dr. Brian Braaksma, MD

I saw Dr B for my neck and lumbar spinal stenosis and bone spurs. He recommended I don’t do surgery on my lumbar because it wouldn’t help my pain. He said neck surgery would likely be helpful for that pain. I instead went to pain management for 5 yrs. Now I’m ready for neck surgery and appreciate his conservative approach. I sent my son to him who did get surgery for sciatica and he is doing great. All fixed. We are thrilled. I’m actually looking forward to getting my neck done. I know the relief will be worth it.

Dr. Braaksma is an amazing and caring doctor! I have been in his care since 2022 and can say with honestly that he is one of the most caring, understanding, and intelligent doctors I’ve ever had. I have chronic pain in my back, and I first became a patient of his when I had sciatica and herniated disc. I came in for an office visit, he ordered necessary imaging, and then recommended a microdiscectomy. Since I was going to school at the time, I only had about two weeks to help my pain, and Dr. Braaksma got my surgery was scheduled within that week!!! I highly recommend him to everyone!

Best attributes include Knowledge & Courtesy of both the office staff and medical team. Since he also instructs other surgeons in numerous procedures, he is very talented in explaining your problem area and how to correct it. I am a nurse and I have an impaired son. I was extremely nervous about major back surgery. However, Dr. Braaksma with his kind words of do not worry as I will take very good care of you, resonated volumes and my tears ended. He is not only caring, but has the amazing ability to explain in detail with such patience. I am an RN of 33 years, so my recommendation for Dr. Brian Braaksma is delivered with much experience, intuition and professionalism. ( I was not reimbursed in any form to display this review)

For all of his appointments, I was asked to arrive 30 minutes early. However, he was over an hour and a half late for both of my in-person appointments. I went to see him because I cannot sit or stand for long periods, and was made to do both to see him. I had a teledoc appointment with him after a $1,000 steroid epidural that lasted less than a week, and he was over 15 minutes late, and did not join the call I was asked to sign in 20 minutes early, and instead called me. He is very informative, but very much so seems to read from a script and is always, always behind I am under 25 and he recommended me for surgery before physical therapy, and one shot. TLDR; he is always over an hour late, but is very informative and knowledgeable. I would not recommend him, but if he's your only option, he's not a bad option.

Spinal stenosis and I needed 2 injections.

Very knowledgeable and skilled surgeon, he gave me options of relief for my health journey which was a spinal fusion. My surgery provided me immediate relief, which is remarkable, I had surgery Wednesday and on Thursday I still feel better than the morning prior to surgery. I truly appreciate that he didn't try to do unnecessary work and is reserved in that aspect. If you want an honest, caring, upfront, confident surgeon, he is what you should be looking for. I will continue to choose him for any future issues or concerns with my spine.

none of this in & out 5 minute office visit with Dr. Braaksma , Doc spent time going over MRI and what problem is and how to fix it.Never felt rushed all questions answered . Been 2 1/2 months and back pain is still 95% gone . staff is the best Kaitlyn went to bat with Insurance company for me , Insurance said it was their fault , you never hear that , Jennifer , Kelsey and Kimberly stayed on top of things ,to make everthing run smooth. Other Doctors & their staff need to see what customer service is all about . Thank You very much- Bobby

It is obvious the entire staff is one unified team that loves what they do. The communication is real. They truly care about helping patients and getting patients better. The staff had great availability, response time, and treat patients respectfully, aiming to understand needs and constraints. This is hard to find today. Dr. Braaksma has outstanding bedside manner, knowledge, and experience. Going above and beyond, treating patients well, and delivering excellent care should be their motto.

Dr. Braaksma is very thorough with explaining your condition, honest with your options & doesn't pressure you into a decision. His concern is for your quality of life....he's THE BEST!!!!

Welcoming when introduced. Very professional in answering questions, showing x-rays with knowledgeable explanation, what to expect if I opted for surgery, and all without pressure. He let me know it was my decision.

Great team and after minimally invasive surgery my back and stability are greatly improved. I was pleased that he first tried PT and did not go straight to surgery. For him, surgery was NOT first - line and that is amazing. That could be why surgery worked for me-by trying other things first he was able to make sure the diagnosis was correct and that I was a surgical candidate. He definitely treats patients as individual and makes sure that if he does surgery it is required. While I am still stiff, I now have better balance and don’t fall every time I step wrong. Thank you Dr Braaksma for helping prevent a major fall and giving me back the motion in my back.

The surgery is a great success. I have no pain and am not taking any pain meds. I’m very happy.

Dr Braaksma is professional, knowledgeable, caring, and listens before deciding on the best way to help you. He is a back surgeon. However, surgery is his last choice after less invasive options have failed. For me, physical therapy is relieving my pain. For a friend who already tried everything, his surgery has her out of rehab, on her feet and back home. I definitely recommend Dr. Braaksma for back problems.
