Secret Weapon
Look no further for pain management, support, loyalty, understated compassion, professionalism, and quality medical care. I was lucky to be referred to Dr D after schlepping to, and paying out-of-pocket for, a 'top notch' PM in NYC. That was almost 15 years ago and I haven't left Dr D for my chronic and debilitating permanent nerve injury which has caused compensating systemic pain problems. Dr D. has continued to help manage my pain and treat the new symptoms...always. Yes, sometimes there is a wait to see 'him.' but stick with the office and be patient. Call back if needed. His support staff do call back and the office is deep in first line staff to receive calls. If you think other offices are any better, good luck, waiting in hold and to see a 'Dr' rather than a NP or PA. Dr D is the best. He knows what works, and so do his well-trained team, so if he recommends something, please consider it. Run to Dr D. and stick it out.

LOW SCORES FOR 5 STAR TOP DOC?
I'm stunned at the low scores and think maybe new patients have negative experiences and don't return. That's a shame because they have no idea how much he would've helped them. I've been seeing Dr. Durkin for over 15 years and he has helped me manage my pain so I'm able to have a quality of life I wouldn't have without him. He is committed to constantly learning cutting edge techniques that put his practice on par with NYC doctors. Dr. Durkin's staff is just like him: Professional, highly skilled, friendly, caring and at the top of their field. You've found the right pain center so come on in and get well. THANK YOU DR. DURKIN AND STAFF FOR ALWAYS BEING THERE WHEN I NEED YOU!

What a waste of my time
If “no star” was an option, I would have chosen it! In my opinion, Dr. Durkin has no bedside manner at all!!!! I had to refuse to leave his office. My appointment was with him, and in walks one of his PAs. I demanded to see Dr. Durkin, and when he finally showed up, he had the nerve to ask me, “What can I do for you?” when this was a follow-up appointment!!! In my opinion, in addition to having an arrogance about him, he has no bedside manner at or “couth” at all.

Horrible- good luck with the phone menu. waiting for appointments. only seen by PAs who arent qualified. If you are in pain, dont go to this guy. It is overall a very frustrating experience. If you do see Durkin,he flies in and out of the room. You have 2 seconds. Went through a whole spinal cord stimulator procedure and after ahorrible experience ,had it removed. No one even followed up.

Has 3 tools in his bag
The backstory is long and I’m not going to go into it I have degenerative spine disease. And chronic excruciating pain. This doctor has never once performed a physical examination of my body. He has never performed any neurological tests. The first time I met him he told me he wanted to insert A spinal stimulator and that out of the hundreds of cases that he’s performed, he has never had a problem. This is patently ridiculous. I visited his office for a couple of months and then finally had to ask him for pain medication because he never offered it. And the top things off I’ve only seen the doctor twice and close to two years of treatment. They tell me I’m going to see the doctor but when I get there they always say he’s in surgery and you need to visit see the physicians assistant. It truly doesn’t matter to me because he never explains anything on the two times I’ve seen him. I had two MRIs three weeks ago and no one has ever called me to discuss the results. Do not recommend.

I was referred to Dr. Durkin for pain management. Through combined evaluations with Dr. Liption, Dr. Durkin has provided treatment, which has given me significant relief of severe pain, caused by a car accident in early 2020. Dr. Durkin cares a great deal about my condition and I trust he will continue to provide quality care throughout the recovery process.

Dr. Durkin did an incredible job on me. I had very intense right leg radiculopathy due to a herniated disc (L5/S1). The first shot, unfortunately, did not produce long-lasting results. But the second epidural shot, administered by Dr. Durkin through a different area/method--made ALL of the difference. The effects lasted all the way until I was ready for surgery. Thank you, Dr. Durkin! I am very lucky to have found you! Wishing you and your team all the best at Port Jefferson Surgical Center.

Those who have left a negative review because Dr Durkin didn't hand you out opioids and other DANGEROUS drugs should take a look in the mirror and ask yourself "maybe he's right." There is nobody as advanced as Dr Durkin in interventional pain management in the triple-state area.

He Only cares about doing injections and forcing people off their meds. If you do need meds even if you have tried everything else and are still willing to he will call you a drug addict to your face no matter how extensive your patient records are. He is extremely rude and never takes the time to even go over test reaults he has ordered for you. He has patients pay a ton to get a DNA test then just hanfs you the paper he printed from the company who runs the tests website and tells you nothing

I have been seeing Dr Durkin for a few years, first at Stony Brook and now at Mather. He has always given me advice that was spot on for my back. Yes, I had to have two sessions of shots that did nothing, but that was insurance protocol. He is not "warm and fuzzy", but he is sincere and honest. I trust his opinion.

This doctor is more interested in treating the statistics / what he reads ie what the CDC recommends rather than assessing and formulating his own professional opinion on individual patients. He does what a published document says rather than treating the individual symptoms and side effects that each patient may experience. He's also very 'needle' happy (hospital procedures involving lumbar/cervical injections). He always want to go that route over meds, bc there's more $$ in it!

Not only Dr. During was the only 1 who relieved my 56 yr old brother in law out of cancer causing pain his last few months of living BUT I feel soo much better with my multiple spine herniation's but I'm on less rx''s & less damage being done to my stomach, liver & kidneys! I was under the care of a different pain specialist for 12yrs that never offered procedures that I'm receiving now! Dr. Durkin even goes as far as swabbing the mouth of some of his pts to find the correct medication via DNA.

Dr. Durkin is a great doctor. He won't give you the warm fuzzies but he knows what he's doing. Four years ago he gave me an epidural that relieved my pain for 4 years. This time around he referred me to a surgeon, giving his honest opinion that my back has deteriorated too much to continue relying on epidurals for pain relief.

Run..it's the best advice I can give. This guy has a serious lack of compassion: despite his accolades and merits intellectually, his practice stays very much in the realm of theoretical with sincere lack of interest in real world problems. Certainly not qualified to be managing anything on behalf of anyone. Unless of course the problem is only in theory. Please don't take my word forit, go waste some of your precious time and see for yourself. This is only my first, second and third inpression.
