Foley tried to strip my membranes without asking!
Dr. Brian Foley at Northwestern attempted to strip my membranes without permission. He was unsuccessful. He NEVER asked--he just attempted to do so as part of my the medical exam. I was LIVID. I feel such doctors are opening themselves up to a malpractice lawsuit. Can you say "informed consent," Dr. Foley?

Dr. Foley made me feel extremely uncomfortable during my Pap smear exam. As another patient has commented about a similar experience, Dr. Foley also made purely cosmetic remarks about my body. It has taken me several years (and a now-wonderful OBGYN) to move past this experience. I also suspect that Dr. Foley performed a painful procedure that was not necessary. I was told I needed the procedure ASAP, so I acted on that advice. Years later, I continue to have zero medical indication required for such a procedure. There are so many wonderful OBGYN doctors, who truly care about patients and go above and beyond to ensure they are comfortable and informed. Dr. Foley is not one of them.

AVOID
Similar to other folks' experience, I had awful experiences with Brian (not even going to call him Dr)... He was one of the doctors I saw throughout my pregnancy and had odd bedside etiquette. He'd make comments that were purely cosmetic and not medical (for example - he kept offering to remove a mole for me, despite my never having brought it up.). I was induced PRAYING he was not going to be my doctor. Unfortunately, he was there. He disagreed with my midwife on breaking my water. As a result of having my water broken too early (and him insisting it wouldn't hurt - as if he'd know from experience?!) - I sat in labor for 20+ hours. I developed a fever, and my baby and I both had to receive antibiotics for days post delivery as a result. He's aggressive in his approach. He's dismissive to anything being said by the birthing mother. When I told him I was in pain, he laughed at my wanting an epidural. AVOID HIM. USE LITERALLY ANY OTHER DOCTOR IF YOU CAN.

I gave birth to 4 children, only the last one was delivered by Dr. Foley. All of the births & labors I had were quite eventful in their own way but I'm extremely traumatized by the birth experience I had w/Dr. Foley-typical textbook delivery despite my wishes, no compassion during or after the delivery. I felt I like I was treated like a delivering animal and not a woman giving birth. No proper explanation and possible implications of the procedure used during the labor was explained to me - as a result it turned into agony labor and delivery. I thought I was going to die. The baby was delivered but it's no to any attribution to Dr. Foley's being there - my body was luckily able to cope & deliver a healthy baby. My husband was a witness to it all. After the delivery, the doc said "you got what you wanted"-a wicked misinterpretation of the birth plan I intended to have. After delivery - no compassion, acknowledgement/attempt to help, total complacency w/his "30 yrs of experience".

Dr. Foley has been my OBG for the last 20 yrs. He has been the best, he moved far from me and I tried other OBGs but always came back to him because he is the best. He deliver my two teenager kids and up to this day, i still remember him being accommodating and just the best doctor to have taking care of me.

Dr. Foley has been my OBGYN for 20 years and I couldn't say enough positive things about him. His bedside manner, his expertise, and his professionalism are all world-class, and when we started a family, under highly challenging circumstances, it became especially clear just what a gem he is. He truly cares about his patients and made the entire fertility, pregnancy and postpartum journey as positive as one ever could hope for. My husband and I are eternally grateful!
