Complaint about Dr. Steckles conduct
During my consultation with Dr. Steckel, I found his demeanor to be quite abrasive and dismissive. When discussing my medical history, he exhibited a condescending attitude and seemed irritated by my responses. His repeated inquiries about my hemorrhoids without providing clear explanation regarding what he actually wanted to know. His repeated inquiries were very frustrating and made me feel belittled. However, my utmost concern arose at the end of the examination. To my dismay, both Dr. Steckel and the male nurse exited the room before I had time to clean myself and while my shorts and underwear were still around my knees. As they walked out, the door was wide open and my bare bottom was fully exposed to the hallway. I was mortified. This incident was deeply humiliating and violated my privacy. As a result of this distressing experience, I was unable to receive the necessary information and treatment for my condition and I left the office in tears.

Laparoscopic Partial Cecectomy
Dr. Steckel is an excellent surgeon. While performing a colonoscopy, he identified a 3 cm growth located by my appendix and, after CT scan and follow-up visit, recommended it’s removal. He and his team performed laparoscopic surgery to remove my appendix and a portion of the adjoining colon (cecum). Dr. Steckel is a very knowledgeable and experienced surgeon, and he took the time to answer all my questions before and after the procedure. He and his team did an excellent job, and my recovery went very smoothly. I was back home in 2 days. I would recommend Dr. Steckel of St. Peter’s Hospital to anyone with similar colorectal healthcare needs. Bonus review… the nursing staff at St. Peter’s Hospital were all super helpful! They work 12 hour shifts and had a positive attitude no matter how difficult the circumstances (or the patient). A truly inspiring group of people.

A Simple Fissure Turned Far Worse
For starters I am a fairly young healthy guy with 0 medical problems other than a rectal fissure. This is a small cut on the rectum for those unaware. I was referred to Dr. Steckel via my primary care provider. After months of creams and diet changes the fissure did not go away and I made the mistake of letting Dr. Stekel operate on me. It was suppose to be a simple injection procedure, a couple days of healing. Instead Dr. Stekel went in and completely opening the fissure and "found" a new fissure anterior that I had never seen of felt before. Then came 6 weeks of brutal recovery barely being able to sit down. After 4 weeks Dr. Stekel told me he didn't know what was wrong. I was fed up and found a new doctor who was stunned to hear about what had happened. He offered a new treatment plan and told me that this "procedure" could've been done in an office visit with some local anesthetic. He said the cuts now look ulcerated and overall was a bit baffled on what happened in the OR.

Dr. Steckel is a knowledgeable, kind, considerate individual. He spent considerable time assessing, evaluating, and explaining my 48 year old Downs syndrome son's issues. These turned out not to be serious, bringing peace of mind to our family. I recommend him most highly.

Dr. Steckel pressured my 88-year-old father to have a colonoscopy, though he went in for hemorrhoids. With the thinning of the colon wall in the elderly, puncture risk is high, to say nothing of the problems of using anesthesia on the elderly. The staff was also rude, and unhelpful. My father is very kindly, and with-it mentally, and did nothing to deserve the rude treatment, which he got from staff in the office and on the telephone. I would not recommend for people over 50, if at all.

I've never been spoken to by a doctor as rudely and aggressively as I was spoken to by Dr. Steckel. In the 30 seconds he spent with me, I found him abrasive, belittling, rude, inconsiderate, and inappropriate. If I had a choice I would never go back to this office again.
