Highly Recommend
I’ve been seeing Dr. Bakewell for over 15 years and he’s the absolute best. He and his staff are highly professional, caring, efficient, knowledgeable and helpful. Very pleasant, clean and organized office and easy to make appointments. Dr. Bakewell has always been able to resolve my complicated vision issues and I highly recommend him.

Excellent eye surgeon
Dr. Bakewell performed cataract surgery on me with monovision lens implants. He was always extremely professional, courteous, informative, and listened well. I can’t say enough good things about the entire experience at both the office & the surgical center. The staff was always organized & efficient. The nurses at the surgery center were amazing and helped alleviate my stress. They explained what was about to happen every step of the way and I felt very cared for. I had a great outcome - so happy with my vision! Dr Bakewell was excellent & I highly recommend him and the eye center.

BEWARE
BEWARE - All my life I have had distance vision in my Right eye. After cataract surgery with Dr. Bakewell I ONLY have near vision. His answer was “I only get very little from Medicare. This is science, no guarantees”. I have seen him several times since surgery. If I were to have another surgery with him, he stated it would cost ME (patient) $2K and no guarantees. Other people in office were kind. He did a TERRIBLE surgery and did not feel it was anything wrong. His focus was totally financial, not my well-being or his surgery.

Office staff providing measurements and IOL selection for surgery became inpatient when asked for detailed information regarding choices, she sternly said that Dr. Bakewell wouldn't make the choice for me. That was not my request but rather scientific information regarding choices as they related to my needs. I walked out because this is too important of a decision to be treated like a cattle factory.

I had a great experience with Dr Bakewell. I was very dissatisfied with the multifocal IOLs I received from another surgeon and I wanted to replace them. Several Drs told me it was too risky (I'd had a capsulotomy)and I thought I was stuck with these lenses. Finally, I got referred to Dr Bakewell and he said he could do the surgery. He replaced my old IOLs with new ones and my vision is dramatically better. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an excellent ophthalmology surgeon.

Dr. Bakewell performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes in 2020. My eyesight was extremely poor prior to the surgery including astigmatism. Dr. Bakewell worked with me to explain my options and then performed very successful surgery by implanting intraocular lens in both eyes. My vision is now 20-20 in both eyes with minimal astigmatism! Dr. Bakewell and the entire staff at Fishkind, Bakewell & Maltzman provided sincere, professional and friendly service. I would highly recommend Dr. Bakewell and his organization.

I had a regrown pterygium in one eye and cataracts in both eyes when I came to Dr. Bakewell. He did a conjunctival autograft surgery first to remove the pterygium and then two cataract lens replacement surgeries later. All through the process, Dr. Bakewell explained treatment options, asked for my feedback, monitored my recoveries, and provided excellent care. He is a skilled professional and I have already recommended him to friends who are expecting to need cataract surgery in the future. My vision is better now than I have ever experienced in my life. No glasses!

Had surgery for cataracts 10 months ago and feel my vision is worse. I spent an extra 5k for Toric lenses. I am very dissatisfied with the results. My concerns seem to fall on deaf ears. I was last told that I have large pupils and that is why my eyes are so light sensitive now. I was told they don’t make lens in a larger size. No one ever mentioned this as a potential problem before surgery.... I would not have gambled with my vision. I expected some halos perhaps but not what I feel I am stuck with. I wanted a surgeon that was sure of himself however he is not really open to problem solving this with me. Eye drops to constrict my pupils is what I was given. Very unhappy. The optical department didn’t offer any suggestions either.

Dr. Bakewell is an outstanding dr. He has repaired my torn retina and did a phenomenal job. He takes time to explain things to you and does a thorough job. There is a wait time for him but when you need a great Dr. I am willing to wait. Good people are with waiting for.

As a surgeon he is great... After consistent two hour waiting periods.... for an appointment you show early for is ridiculous. Time management and scheduling is extremely poor! And when you wait that long.... maybe you can slow down to explain what's going on with a patients situation.

After being a patient for several years I gave up today. You make an appointment and arrive early and then you wait and wait and wait. I walked out, it's insulting....they over book appointments and then waste your time waiting. No more.

Dr Bakewell did cataract surgery on both my eyes and while I was satisfied with the results of the surgery I have not been happy with the care received on follow up visits. They farm you out to other doctors for follow up checks in Oro Valley so I would not recommend using this company. Also their front desk is not helpful.
