Dr. Burt Stanga, MD

Dr Stanga was reasonable and kind. My son had been bitten by a dog we were fostering and knew little about. I called Dr. Stanga, and he walked us through the protocol, and was friendly and kind. It's rare you get a telehealth doc with such credentials as nearly 50 years in pediatrics, starting at one of the most well-respected medical schools in the country, so I felt I really lucked out.

My son had a red mark on his cheek that I assumed was part of his eczema. I noticed one day that there was a faint red ring around it and became concerned so I did a telehealth visit with Dr. Stanga. After I explained the situation to him and he gave me his opinion and suggestion on what to do, he made the comment "Most mothers look their babies over every day. It seems like this spot has been there awhile and is healing (he thought it was a bug bite). It doesn't seem as if this spot was hiding in a fold or crease somewhere where it'd be hard to find". My whole telehealth visit with him lasted less than 5 minutes and in that short time, he made me feel like a incompetent and negligent mother, whether he meant to or not. I do appreciate his medical advice and he put my mind at ease that way, but the "most mothers" comment was uncalled for. I was in tears after our visit. Being a new mother is hard enough without a doctor, who you are hoping helps you, making you feel inadequate.
