Dr. Cara Heller, MD

Truly one of the most caring and compassionate doctors. I'm so grateful for her care over the years.

Dr. Heller is my favorite doctor at the VA. She is calm, compassionate, thorough in her diagnosis, and tells her patients the truth about the various things they may be suffering from. In my case, she was clear with me that medicine was only going to do part of the work, I also had to make lifestyle changes, and she introduced me to a support group that helped me lose weight and make changes to my diet that have left my feeling 100% better than when I first began visiting her for treatment.

Dr. Heller always takes the time to listen to everything going on with me and discuss all my treatment options so I understand the differences and then we decide what's best for me. She makes me feel open to ask any and all questions and bring up all my concerns.

Dr. Heller prescribes medications because it's the standard and not because it's right for the patient. Not everyone responds the exact same way to treatment.

Dr. Heller has been treating me for six years. She has the kindest bedside manner and will always go out of her way for her patients. She always listens to everything that's on my mind and never makes me feel rushed.

Dr. Heller has a nice personality but is lacking in research and quality decision-making when it comes to patient care. Sometimes I feel like a lab rat because of her "let's try this" approach. Often prescribing three or four ineffective medications some with dangerous side effects (including one with a black box warning for drug-induced Lupus) to see if they work for a certain condition than prescribe one or two that actually is proven to work. When admitted to the ER at the VA Hospital the nurse stated that I was the fifth patient of Dr. Heller's that day. This told me a lot about her quality of care or lack thereof.
