Good, but with a grain of salt
I met with Dr. Dougherty's fellow for one appointment. The fellow program is great and they give you a lot of their time in the office. He followed up to confirm things with Dr. Dougherty and she answered immediately, which is rare for doctors. I avoided unnecessary invasive tests because of my experience at Gtown Headache Center and Dr. Dougherty's approach. However, while I was recommended for inpatient hospitalization by several other neurologists, the fellow at Gtown deemed 'We don't think it's that bad where it requires inpatient treatment'. I have just returned from a 2 week stay at a migraine hospital as I was made fully disabled by NDPH, MOH, and chronic migraine. I would be in the same miserable cycle of pain if I listened to the clinic. I would still recommend Gtown but always advocate for yourself, you know your pain best. However, Gtown Headache Center was an overall positive experience.

Dismissive and Rushed
The fellows and residents at this practice are great but ultimately Dr. Dougherty is in charge. Both times I've met with her she was extremely dismissive of my concerns and frankly a little snarky. I felt like I was bothering her by being there.

I had an appointment with Dr. Dougherty and traveled 40 mins to see her. She refused to see me because I saw another NP in her office before. She doesn’t care about people.

Exceptional Care
Dr. Dougherty is amazing. She and the Fellows at Georgetown Headache Clinic always take the time to discuss my chronic migraine and how we may change up my treatment plan to try to get a bit more pain free moments in my life. I feel heard and like someone care whether or not I get better. I trust that Dr. Dougherty and her team are on the cutting edge of migraine treatment advancements. While accessing migraine meds seemed very stressful with other doctors, the Georgetown team makes this seemless for me. This practice is in huge demand. There is only one headache specialist per every 20,000 chronic migraine patients. So grateful that they also host a Fellowship program to get more neurologists credentialed in headache medicine. Thank you, Dr. Dougherty!

I did not expect anything more than basic care. *Dr. Dougherty was willing to listen to my complex medical needs, shared info from a recent training where she learned up to date medical protocols, and compassionately helped me choose treatment options. I AM IMPRESSED!

I travel from Richmond, VA to McLean to see Dr. Dougherty. She is the best doctor I have ever seen and I am a nurse. She is knowledgeable and very patient. She educated me about all aspects of my medications and illnesses. I would not be the healthy person I am without her help.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Dougherty?
Dr Dougherty has an extensive knowledge of headache medicine and she is up to date on the latest research and treatments. Unfortunately, her utter lack of empathy, compassion, and courtesy negate it all. Until this doctor learns to regard her patients with humility, kindness, and respect, she will always fall short of her ambitions. Seek help elsewhere.

I have been a patient of Dr Doughtery for about 7 years. I had been to dozens of doctors for help with a medical problem and none of the other doctors had any clue what the cause might be. She was able to help me on my first visit. It was such a relief! Dr. Dougherty always takes the time to listen and figure out the best path forward for you to get you back to good health. She is a very caring doctor who is able to think outside the box to help her patients. I highly recommend her.
