I interviewed three bariatric surgeons before deciding on Dr. Carlton. He is SO easy to speak with and gave me options, not just a cookie cutter one size fits all approach. He recommended the DS and bypass, giving pros and cons of each. I chose the DS and the results have been amazing! I’m in much better health than I’ve been in years and have lost 135 pounds. His staff is friendly as well as helpful. Five star service and results!

Dr Carlton’s gastric bypass caused irreparable damage to me from my surgery that I am still having major problems with & it is over 2 years post op now. Many surgeries later, septic shock, infections, revision now being done by a whole team at UT Southwest; the list is extensive. My experience was the worst possible outcome & it has taken a horrible toll on my quality of life. He was good at first but as the complications compounded, he abandoned me & refused to treat me. Emergency room doctor was stunned when I ended up in the ER & Dr Carlton refused to even give him the necessary info on my case. At first I loved him & thought he was so personable & good at what he did. My experience has proved otherwise. He talks a good game but if you have complications…it’s like he gets mad at you. During my last in-office visit I asked him why he seemed angry at me. He told me I was “ruining his good track record.” His exact words. Unbelievable. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

I pursued Dr Carlton after reading a post in one of the Facebook bariatric groups. I was suffering from severe Gerd and acid reflux due to a hiatal hernia and a stricture that occurred after my sleeve surgery. I had gone to five other bariatric doctors about my problem over the span of three years and they all wanted to do a revision to a bypass. I knew I was not mentally prepared for that drastic of a lifestyle change when my primary concern was not weight related. Dr. Carlton is a personable doctor and I felt very comfortable entrusting him with my health. He did not make me feel like I was a dollar sign. He was the first doctor who actually listened to my concerns about doing a revision to bypass and he reviewed other options to try first. I'm so grateful for his medical expertise! I am almost 2 months out of my hernia repair and fundoplication and I feel fantastic. I have not had any problems with GERD or acid reflux since my surgery and I no longer have to take medication. I got a duodenal switch (DS) in June of 2020 and have already lost 100 pounds! Doc Carlton and Allison are phenomenal and literally saved my life in more ways than one! During my DS surgery, Dr. Carlton didn't just do the surgery and be done with it....he took his time and discovered a hiatal hernia and also successfully repaired it at that time. Unbeknownst to me, a week later, I was back in the hospital with another hernia that was causing me all kinds of issues that hid its ugly self during the initial WLS surgery. Dr. Carlton found it and saved my life, yet again, by going back in a week later and fixing that major hernia at that time. SO, he saved me twice! I cannot say enough good things about him and his staff! He and his staff are always there for you, never rushing, always willing to answer questions no matter how big or small and they make you feel like a million bucks in more ways than one.

Dr Carlton told us he would help with our sons hernia repairs and SMA syndrome but after stringing us along just dropped us.He would not return calls or emails for over a month. He finally had a nurse email us that he will not help us.When he thought we were going to pay cash he even spoke of doing exploratory surgery as well as explained how he would repair the hernias.Once insurance was put on the table he dropped us and without even telling us.We have 16 second opinions confirming my son needs surgery but Carlton will not even comment on images given to us from scans confirming my sons problems.I would not recommend this surgeon to anyone.
