I recommend
I saw Dr. Cole for a 3 years post surgical for a tumor that was removed from my spinal cord. This was my first visit with him. He took more than adequate amount of time reviewing the MRI with me. He showed various sections and the 3D view. As he explained the MRI to me he asked if I understood. He also explained why I will continue to have some side effects. In the past three years no one has taken the time to explain my condition in detail. I was very impressed with Dr. Cole. He is not only personable but knowledgeable.

Superb surgeon
I suffered, or at least experienced, atrophy in my pinky and ring finger in my left hand for several years, and diagnosis eluded three GPs and two specialists. Finally, Dr. Swinarksa, a neurologist at UNM, made the correct diagnosis, which was cervical myelopathy, meaning that my spine had destroyed some nerve function towards my left hand. Dr. Cole explained that left untreated, the condition would 'progress', ultimately affecting my ability to walk and hike. [I was 74 then, and an avid walker and hiker]. I agreed to a procedure known as decompression and fusion, for which Dr. Cole is a leading surgeon. He cautioned me, however, that typically patients feel intense pain after the procedure, despite being given the usual pain meds. To my surprise, when I had the procedure in January 2022, I found the pain to be quite manageable (2 out of 10), and was able to walk down a hospital corridor right after surgery, without a cane or walker, much to the horror of the nurse accompanying

Explains difficult back issues clearly
He not only discussed my previous failed back surgery from a different surgeon and why it failed, he was able to clearly explain how it could be fixed. He used my MRI to show exactly what the problem is and what could be done. He answered every question. I gained a lot of confidence by understanding the proposed procedure.

Failed Surgery
I had spinal surgery (C2-T1) on April 21, 2022. Decision to have surgery was based on 5 neurological symptoms that all my docs believed should disappear as a result of surgery. I am now 5.5 months post-surgery; none of the 5 symptoms have been relieved, AND 5 new neurological symptoms have appeared as a result of the surgery. I've had almost 200 hours of PT and OT and some of the new symptoms have improved slightly; none of the original symptoms have receded. Dr. Cole says "give it time; it may take upwards of 2 years for any of the symptoms to disappear." I am greatly disappointed. If he had told me this before the surgery, I would not have agreed to it.

After seeing many neurologists for my lower back/ sciatica issues I felt like there was no one to trust. I’d get answers all the way from your fine to we need to fuse your back at at least four levels. My friend had back surgery with Dr. Cole and knew I had back issues so he called me while recovering to tell me I had to see this man. I saw him on his last day working in St. George Utah office and fifteen years of skepticism was gone in ten minutes. I knew he could do it. He told me exactly where the problem was (which is what I’d told all the others but they didn’t care/listen). I felt so great that we followed him to Reno,NV to have surgery. I knew from the moment I woke up from surgery that it was a different (great) ballgame. I seriously cried when I saw him for my follow up visit. How can you a accurately express the gratitude you have for someone that’s taken away fifteen years of pain? He was beyond great in every way! Can’t thank him enough.

Dr. Cole did a 10 level Fusion on my spine. This was to correct a curvature but he failed to fuse me in a straight position but instead fused me in a bent-over position that I cannot correct due to the hardware. She should not be performing surgery on people if he can't do it right. The surgeon should be held responsible for the people's lives he has destroyed. Do not let him touch your spine

He's amazing! So sad he left Reno but excited for his future potential! He fixed another surgeon's error and made the potential for life quality good. He went out of his way to make sure I had everything I had to get through surgery, healing, and the transition when he left. I greatly appreciate everything he and everyone at his practice; from scheduling to PA's, has done for me. The practice is the best in town!!

Very responsive. From my very first interaction with Dr. Cole I was the center of his focus. From the initial meeting at 3 a.m. In the ER, to when he came by to walk me to my room at St. Mary's at five a.m. Amazingly, he showed up as he had promised on Saturday afternoon and spent over a half hour going over images with me and stating his opinion. He listened very closely to my questions, and answered all of them. And he knew that I consulted another surgeon, but did not matter.

Dr. Cole is amazing! He gave me a second chance at life. My back was curved to the point where I was in intense pain constantly; surgery from T4 to my pelvis was recommended. He did an a very detailed 12 hour surgery with wonderful results. His office staff and PAs are wonderful and I always got the answers I needed and they all cared about me and so kind during my recovery. I can walk again!! I highly recommend him!! You can't do better than Dr. Cole! SB
