2016 ACDF C3-C4
I will forever be thankful and grateful to Dr. Roonprapunt and his staff for relieving me of the worse pain in my life. In 2015 I had hand and arm impairment and major pain in my back. I found out from my rheumatologist that I would need to see a neurosurgeon ASAP and Dr. Roonprapunt was one of the only doctors that squeezed me in for an appointment during the Christmas holiday. This was my first major surgery and his office helped the entire way with medical clearances and getting insurance approval. They were compassionate. In January 2016, Dr. Roonprapunt performed an ACDF on my C3-4. And I had no pain whatsoever after the surgery and did not need to continue use of the pain relievers. There was limited movement while I healed but I currently have fully motion and movement. I live an active lifestyle and do not have neck pain.I recently had a follow-up, because I want to go scuba diving, and my 2016 and 2024 x-rays were identical. Forever grateful.

love him
Caressed me with comfort and love. His kindness alone cured my paralysis. He performed a C46ACDF surgery on me that couldn't have gone better in my opinion. His work is the medical equivalent of Picasso's Starry Night. He explained the procedure step-by-step comforting me with his gentle and nice voice. Ah. Would rate a 6 star if possible.

Phenomenal doctor and surgeon :)
Dr. Chan was able to fix the pinched nerve in my neck by replacing two discs. It's been six months since then and I am feeling like I can move my neck as if I never had an issue. I don't have any pain that I had prior to the surgery. I will never be able to thank Dr. Chan enough for saving my life. It's so hard to believe how much better I am now.

I consider him one of best Neurosurgeon in N Y.
On August 11th, 2022, I had a right T11 hemilaminectomy, and right T10 laminotomy , and right T12 laminotomy for Thoracic radiculopathy. I was injured 18 months before, falling on my right side, which had increasing pain nerve. Due to the injury , I had become limited to my activities and daily life routine. All i can say after three months post surgery, as Dr. Chan had mention to me within 3 months recovery I would be well. I did . No pain, no meds,, just being myself like before the injury. Separately from doctors follow up visits, Dr. Chan took 5 minutes to call me, just to ask how I feel once a month, which I greatly appreciated. Dr. Chan is very caring , friendly and a great surgeon. I’m thankful to God, and to Dr.Chan for returning my life to me !! Totally Successful Surgery!!

Average surgeon, horrible human
Dr. Chan performed a lumbar discectomy and, as I still have numbness in foot years later, I can’t say that it was an entirely successful surgery, which is the main issue I have with the doctor. However, I will add that this fact was accompanied by the worst bedside manner I’ve witnessed from a surgeon. He “friendly” demeanor is superficial - if you are content with his answers and have no follow-up questions, I’ve no doubt you walk away with a positive impression. Ask any probing questions whatsoever, and you’re met with evasiveness and condescension. Dr. Chan - your patients are not morons. You would do well to understand that your patients may also hold doctorates, even in the sciences, and their questions should be answered thoroughly and respectfully and not responded to as one might expect from a fifth grader taking on a schoolyard challenge. And if you are incapable of that, then you should retain a professional to help you communicate with your patients.

I had cervical spine surgery 10/8/21. This is second operation I’ve had with Dr. Roonprapunt. This first was in the lumbar region. He is an excellent surgeon. Smart, capable and compassionate. If I did not trust him and his team, I would not be a patient. He listens, understands-also pays attention to the experience of the patient and pain level. All my surgical outcomes were successful with desired resolutions. His OPD PA Nancy Lam is also great and I’m glad they work together.

In February of 2020 Dr. Chan performed a L4-L5 Hemilaminectomy, Partial Facetectomy in response to ongoing, constant nerve pains in both legs. The operation was a success and I have not experienced those symptoms since that time. He is courteous, sympathetic, gentle and does not stint on sharing information and answering questions. I recommend Dr. Chan highly, he would be my first choice for any future procedures in his area of expertise.

I had a herniated disc which caused a lot of pain in my legs. I could barely walk 1/2 a block & had to constantly sit to rest. After I was referred to Dr Chan he had called me to set up an appt whatever was convenient to me. He explained what was going on & the cause of my pain & explained what needed to be done in terms I could understand. I had the the surgery, it was a success. I had recently walked 8 miles in a day without any assistance (cane, shopping cart or walker). After the surgery Dr Chan always called to check up on me. He is a excellent surgeon & very caring, has a great bedside manner. He makes you feel comfortable & relaxed. I will always be grateful for the surgery he performed on me, without it I would not be able to return to work. I would highly recommend Dr Chanland Roonprapunt he is the best. Thank you Dr Chan & your team

Over the past couple of years, I have been dealing with an excruciating pain throughout my back due to a hernia injury. From the pinched nerve in my back to the sciatica pain that felt like my leg was on fire, Dr. Chan knew what do when many doctors chose to ignore. His staff treated me like the number 1 priority throughout the whole hospital stay. Dr.Chan and his staff helped calmed my nerves as I was scared to go through this process of a Lumbar Microdiscectomy. The anesthesiologist and the nurses comforted me in the surgery room and made me feel at home. Now, as I type this up, 2 weeks post-op, I can truly say I am blessed that Dr.Chan was my surgeon. I no longer have to deal with the painful fire sensation that used to shoot up my leg. I will forever be grateful for Dr. Chan.

It is no exaggeration that Dr. Roonprapunt gave me my life back. I am about 3 months post surgery and now nearly pain free. While I have faced many health challenges over the years, none so affected my quality of life as the sciatic pain I experienced in my right leg. Thanks to his expertise, professionalism and dedicated staff, I can say I feel virtually no pain or limitation and in fact have an even greater perspective and appreciation for my new pain free life having endured so much over this past year. I recommend him without hesitation or reservation. Thank you "Dr. Chan" for all you do and for what you have done for me.

I was 9 months into the most debilitating case of Sciatica by the time I went to see Dr. Chan for a second opinion on a proposed Spinal Fusion. Before seeing Dr. Chan I was in the care Orthopedics that approached this with steroid shots, oral steroids, PT and then an Epidural. None relieved me of the pain shooting down my right leg. You know that 1 to 10 Face Scale they give you to describe your pain? I was at a 20 and the face had melted off, this led me to Sinai and Dr. Chan. I cannot express how different I felt after waking up in recovery and not feeling the pain I was in any longer. I honestly wanted to cry. As the days went on and my brain adjusted to that pain being gone, I still wanted to cry because I couldn’t believe what I was living with prior to the Surgery. Dr. Chan changed this. He gave me my life back. I would call Dr. Chan an exceptionally gifted surgeon and would recommend him to anyone living with Back Pain.

I had a very good experience with Dr. Chan and his staff, particularly his PA, Nancy Lam. I found him to be conscientious, concerned and thorough in his explanations during our consultations prior to and after surgery. Insurance paperwork, requests for prescriptions and emails were promptly responded to by him personally or his staff. The surgery, this past fall 2020, for a lumbar fusion went well and I have been relieved of the pain in my lower back and legs that were constant & increasingly debilitating companions for the year+ before the surgery. About as positive an experience you can have when you need to have back surgery, highly recommend him!

Worst surgeon I have ever had perform my surgery. I wouldn’t go to him again or recommend him to anyone even if he were the last spine surgeon on earth. He made a so called incidental durotomy in my spinal cord. This essentially means he CUT OFF my dura in my spinal cord. My cerebral spinal fluid LEAKED. Roonprapunt nearly KILLED me. He did c4-6 ACDF on me which FAILED. I was a healthy, active 48 year old woman. He chose to do fusion on me when I later learned every other surgeon would have done a disc replacement surgery because of my age and high activity level. Why did he choose a fusion? My guess is he wanted to practice multi-level cerebral spine fusion on me and it paid more than replacement surgery. He caused more disabling pain & paralysis in my dominant arm & hand than before his surgery. At midnight before my surgery he called to ask me to bring my MRI CD to OR. Apparently he lost my MRI CD! This is a few hours before my surgery! Careless negligent inept butcher.

I saw Dr Chan for a 2nd opinion after failed back surgery by somebody else. He spent more time with me than anyone else, after having already reviewed my scans before I came. He explained how he thought he could help me and I felt immediately comfortable. The surgery went very well and I have no pain for the first time in years. He is very caring and obviously very smart and competent.

Dr. Chan is by far the best neurosurgeon you could go to. After experiencing debilitating pain for years, I was finally provided with the option to undergo spinal surgery. My appointment was during the Covid-19 pandemic, and unfortunately, my surgery was postponed temporarily. Dr. Chan made sure to call each week to check up on me, to offer information, and to make sure I was as comfortable as possible until the surgery could happen. He truly made me feel cared about and prioritized. When the surgery occurred, Dr. Chan was extremely attentive and caring. After the surgery, Dr. Chan was available at all hours to answer any questions I had. His compassion and commitment as a physician helped me and my family in easing our nerves about the process. He did an amazing job, and I was able to return to work shortly after my surgery. I have never had a more dedicated and professional physician, and I am so grateful. I can't recommend him highly enough! He is simply the best.
