He followed me in St. Luke’s when I had a bloodstream staph infection which had attacked a vertebra. I saw him in the ER when I came in with extreme pain in my back and I was already only semiconscious. I am still impressed with his ability to diagnose the problem given what little he had to go on; I didn’t even have a fever. After 6 days hospitalized he agreed to discharge me, at my request (I was worried about a secondary infection and thought I might be safer at home). He sent me home with a PICC line and trusted my husband and me to get the antibiotics into the blood twice a day. I recovered completely. I realize from that how important experience is in a doctor. Wish he hadn’t retired.
