Functional Psychiatrist
I have been a long time patient. What I like is she used to practice using prescription medications when that was how doctors treated mental health problems. She changed her practice and now is a functional psychiatrist which means she treats the whole body as your physical health effects your mental health. She now offers other options before prescribing drugs and if that doesn’t work she provides the necessary medications. Psychiatry as with regular MD’s are moving away from treating symptoms and focusing on the underlying condition to provide cures.

If you are looking for a psychiatrist that will leave her patients high and dry after years of treatment, Dr. Cheryl Tisler should be your number one choice. At your worst and lowest point in life she will stop responding and cut all ties with you, even during a world wide pandemic! She will recommend an outpatient solution and shut down all progress and growth that was made over the years all because the going go too tough. You would hope your doctor would recommend another doctor that could pick off where she left off on your treatment plan and give her patient enough time to transition. Oh, and she will stop all prescriptions for your current medicine that is keeping you a float. Sometimes a doctor/patience relationship will need to come to an end, that’s understandable. Though mental health is no joke (add in a pandemic) and shame on Doctor Cheryl Tisler for how she has handled this situation. I wouldn’t recommend this doctor to anyone. And I do -Patience’s very concern sister.

Dr. Tisler is an extremely knowledgeable, thorough, patient and compassionate psychiatrist. What sets her apart from other medical professionals is her mix of scientifically based medical AND holistic practices. This is such a rare find. Each time we have met, she has done more research and never ceases to amaze me on her depth and breadth of knowledge. She is also great at giving me things to read and research on my own. She has helped me immensely to remember to continue to take care of myself on all fronts. Dr. Tisler is also such an approachable and humble person as well which is why it is so refreshing to see her. There is never any "dread" before a visit! I would and have recommended her on many occasions to others. All that meet her give her rave reviews and agree that there is no one else like her. She is a gem!

In my opinion, Cheryl Tisler is one of the worst doctors in Rochester--for many reasons. She believes in non science-based treatments (EFT, energy healing, herbal medicine, supplements, spiritual healing) and approaches her patients from this modality. In my opinion, this is dangerous and ineffective. Dr. Tisler is also extremely judgmental and holds negative biases and outdated assumptions towards certain diagnoses. She has a track record of gaining people's trust and then betraying them--a review that was a testament to this and talked about how Dr. Tisler dropped the poster's child as a patient while the child was in the hospital, and then talked badly about the parents, was deleted. She used to have a 2.4 star rating on Vitals.com and now has a 4.75 after many negative reveiws were removed. This is suspicious.

I have been with Dr. Tisler for several years. She is very thorough, empathetic, and goes the extra mile as a therapist. She is very kind and caring while giving attention to the whole person.

Cheryl Tisler has really poor boundaries, and repeatedly used session time to talk about her own personal issues/history and shared information about other patients. I cut her off several times because I felt uncomfortable hearing about other patients’ issues and lives, especially with identifying information (“an 80 year old man”, “a 17 year old high school senior with drug and alcohol problems whose mother abandoned her”). Outrageous!

I calld Dr. Tisler b/c I was in an urgent situation. After I explaind what happend, she said, "Wow!". She understood how bad things were, yet offered no help. Instead she talked to me about a conference call with doctors in NYC. I was appalled that she was trying to make herself seem more important than the serious problem I had. Then she abuptly said she was ending the call, without offering to call back and fit me into her schedule. This doctor has no empathy or compassion.
