Dr. Christine Handanos, MD

Dr. Handanos was my primary care doc at the VA in Albuquerque, NM. She was the best. I was very sorry to hear she was moving to Maine. She was extremely knowledgeable and thorough and I had some serious health issues (still do). My brother is a doc and my wife is an RN. I would of course run everything past them. Dr. Handanos was always on the money! The VA’s loss has been Maine’s gain. It has been over 14 years and I am still thankful for her care. This is the first and only review I have ever written.

Doctor Handanos has provided consistent, professional care for my mother. She’s provided patient, informative care. Very responsive!

My last visit with DR Handanos was aweful,she would not listen to anything I had to say. Never going back.I tried to tell her the meds were not working, went to my primary and she listened, turns out I am allergic to them.

I have never felt so invisible with a doctor, as I have with Dr. Handanos. Ten minutes, if I was lucky, is the most I ever spent in her office. Cold woman...does not even pretend to care. If you ask a question, she gets irritated and gives you a pamplet and says "read this". One winter 3 yrs ago, she quickly checked for fluid in my ankles with my black tights on...I asked "don't you want me to take them off?" and she said "no, you don't have to" I left, the office and never went back

I switched Doctors several years ago, and was happy I did. Dr. Handanos is very thorough, and listens to any concerns I have. I highly recommend her.

I was on my period for 2 wks & also newly diagnosed as hypothyroid. I was on thyroid medication and birth control. She barely spent any time with me. Told me I should take a pregnancy test even though I'm on bc and my boyfriend is sterile. Told me if I kept bleeding to come back. No help. I went home and Googled "period wont stop hypothyroid". Turns out you cannot take birth control at the same time as your thyroid meds (I was). Bleeding stopped overnight after taking meds at diff times.

I have been to see her four times. Each time she has been very cold and uncaring, treating me like she doesn't even want to deal with me at all. One appointment literally lasted 5 minutes. When I asked questions she sighs like it's too much trouble to answer me. The tests that she orders don't measure amount of actual free thyroid, so I am operating below actual normal levels. And last but not least the scripts on which my life now literally depends are not being filled on time.
