Personalized care to rise and thrive for 7 years

I found Dr. Bermant to be a very personable and caring confidante who helped me through two very traumatic phases of my life when experiencing life challenging events. I am very thankful for all he and his team at UW Health-Behavioral Health have done to support my need to be treated with dignity and respect, to listen and counsel me when I need a dose of courage, and to continue to prescribe the meds that have allowed me to maintain my mental, spiritual and physical health, and restore my family and work relationships. With his help I have learned to not just survive, but truly thrive over the past seven years! I wish him all the best as he transitions into his new practice.

Warning
Telehealth
I was only seeing this man for medication management, and it was a horrible couple of years. Never listened, never would adjust my medications and now he up and left without warning. If you need anything more than med management, do not go to this man! You will regret it. What kind of psychiatrist up and leaves his clinic without warning?!

Distant; disconnected; meds worsened issues
My visits with Dr. Bermant have been a waste of my time. My condition has worsened due to the meds he prescribed. I wish I had read these reviews before seeing him. He either doesn’t know how to engage or simply does not want to engage. He tends to conclude appointments well before the time allotted. The UW-Health advertising tagline “Remarkable Care” certainly doesn’t apply to Dr. Bermant.

Stay away!!
The worst psych I've ever visited. Tried discontinuing a medicine I've been on for over a decade on my first visit, against my wishes. Do not see him!!? There is a reason he has a 1 star average.

Refused to review/update diagnosis, told me he'd send me to psych inpatient if I wanted one. Tried to diagnose me with schizophrenia "on the fly" but could not explain his reasoning. Suggested dangerous combos of meds and tries to double up on SSRIs and stimulants. No attempt at connection. No care plans. No followups. 6+ week wait time for appointments. Absolutely awful!

The absolute worst psychiatrist I have ever had. I wish I had found these reviews before my visit. He is condescending, doesn't listen to anything you tell him, establishes zero connection with you, asks you generic questions, and does not offer any helpful advice. He cut my 60 minute meeting short to just 15 minutes, and I ended up having to pay over $500 for this joke of an appointment that I waited a month and a half for. If you're looking for a psychiatrist to make your mental health suffer instead of improve, he's your guy. If you want any sort of improvement, look elsewhere. I honestly don't know how he has kept his job, he is a disgrace to the medical profession.

Most every visit I've had with Dr. Bermant: Dr: Hi, how are you? Me: Describes issues with depression and anxiety that are the same as last time, how frustrated and dispirited I am. Dr: Alrighty, let's have you move from the couch to the chair and discuss your medications, do you need refills? Me: Yes/No. I restate my symptoms and side effects because I've been stuck in a Groundhog's Day repeat of the exact same five-minute (ten if you're lucky, or your actual full time if he's got a med student with him) session with him for the past 2 years, and I do not feel heard or that there is a path leading to progress. Dr: Well, sounds like you're doing well, let's schedule another appt in 2 or 3 months? Me: Either dabbing at tears or holding back anger. The end. (No, seriously, that's it!) Do not recommend. Negative stars. My cat has a better bedside manner. He excels in demonstrating absolutely no indication that he has heard a word you've said, and hewing to his script almost religiously.

His script kickbacks is all he cares about. And nothing else. His unique experimental cocktail gave me 20+ seizures....kept any seizure med from working. He has robotic empathy. He his a huge liar. Because of him and his team I am now disabled and was denied it. I'm withdrawing from 3 strong anti psychotic medication since March 2020. I feel all wrong, comes in waves. Odd zaps and headaches. Ive been a UW PSYCH lab rat for 10 years resulting in Job and home loss, and extremely restless. I'm only 32. I've caught him recently fabricating everything i said over the phone in his doc notes just last week. Because he knows he messed up. I tried to apply for disabilityhe claimed I was mentally fit. Judge shut me down fast. He sounds so educated when he lies. He says on paper I dont have an anxiety disorder anymore. but just MDD now.? MALPRACTICE They are hard to prove but I Glad I quit the meds. Seizure free ever since. But I'm shaking really bad now ge doesnt care.

Absolutely terrible. As other reviews have mentioned, Dr. Bermant is condescending and arrogant. I arranged an appointment needing help for depression and anxiety, and instead of offering any kind of help, he decides to simply eliminate one of the meds I've been on for over 10 years. The whole time, he speaks as if I'm a small child who has no idea what she's talking about. Dr. Bermant is not only unhelpful, he's a jerk. AVOID.

Dr Bermant is one of the worst physicians that I have ever had to deal with. He’s pompous and doesn’t listen to anything you say, which is incredibly frustrating, because those are not exactly qualities that one should expect from a professional psychiatrist. Even more baffling are his actions and behavior, which at times have been prejudiced and rather unintelligent. His arrogance and lack of empathy are simply shocking, and definitely not meeting that “gold standard” that UW Health once held. Not recommended at all! This guy only hears the sound of his own voice! Awful!

This guy is a joke. You confide in him your mental health challenges and he does absolutely nothing for you in terms of asking the appropriate follow up questions. His energy level is beyond poor. There is a reason why his review scores are below 3 out of 5. I am surprised he landed a gig at UW Health in Madison vs. some small town in the middle of no where aka he is at the bottom of his profession.

First thing I noticed walking into his office was that zip in his voice of a bonafide salesman. Used car salesman. It was obvious he didn't believe anything I said and after reading his notes he underdiagnosed or fabricated the state of my mental health. Barely a shred of sympathy and compassion, at one point I was outright mocked. Like a mad chemist, he would max out dosage on dangerous antipsychotics, and mix multiple antipsychotics without any reassurance that it was safe, while adding antidepressants to my brain assault. The man is proud and arrogant and has a standoffish nature, all while ignoring you so he can fabricate an unsubstantiated claim on his part, in the name of recording "details" on your chart. Nightmare scenario. He'll pump you full of antipsychotics and antidepressants and tell you'll they'll treat your complaint, but ask for medications that work and his fear of his Big Pharma handlers will preclude in his mind any beneficial medicinal treatment.

I liked him fine at first, b/c he actually made some medication changes and included me in the decision making process. He lost me due to some customer service issues (outpatient bedside manner, if you will) & when he tried to (re)start me on a med that had been d/c’d for (1) a good reason (2) that was well documented in the chart. He’s nice enough, and at least he approaches medicine in a scientific manner.

He's done a great job finding the right medications despite my difficult history. He's very collaborative and always asks for my opinions. He always makes sure to give several suggestions to insure we're on the same page in terms of treatment. He's also very caring on a personal level--I wish I could have therapy with him as well as medication counseling.

Didn't really feel like he listened to what I was saying about what was going on with me, was just putting me on standard drugs, and when I reacted badly to them, his response was to increase dosage. I don't think he ever really believed me when I told him my reaction to the medication. I feel like he just thinks his patients are lying to him. I concur with a previous review, he does seem to cancel a lot. I've had 3 or 4 cancellations in a year.

I have somewhat complex mental health issues. Dr Bermant did not seem interested in what i had to say, did not try to understand me, and did not ask specific questions. He blew off concerns that i mentioned with a wave of his hand. He kept my appointments short: 5 maybe 10 minutes (out of 30), and 2 appointments were canceled at the very last minute (without any notice the second time). He seemed judgmental and impatient, and i felt more uncomfortable with him over time instead of less.

I am always honest with Doctors about my use of Cannabis. I feel that they are doctors and should have all the information. Because of this Dr. Bermant labeled me a drug addict. I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke cigarettes, I have never done any other drug in my life. I am a responsible adult who happens to enjoy smoking pot once in a great while. Little did i know that this would prevent me from receiving treatment, or would have me labeled as a drug addict. Closed minded fool.
