Very good experience
During my visits with Dr. Gelvin, I get to see him every time, not a PA. He listens to my issue(s) and provides solutions that are what I believe to be appropriate and standard of care. I usually do my own homework on line before I see doctors. However I’m very careful about information on line, some of which is very poor. I do this so I know what to expect & can ask about information I’ve found on line. Dr Gelvin has been very patient & has provided straightforward answers which helps me make good decisions about my healthcare. My doctor in Pennsylvania was the same & I was with his practice for 30 yrs until he retired. I am looking forward to the long term health care with Dr Gelvin.

Dr Gelvin has been my lifesaver
My wife and I have been patients of Dr Gelvin since moving permanently to Sarasota November 2019. He is a very thoughtful, thorough physician. I’m fortunate to have him as our primary medicine doctor. I’ve been referred by him to the best specialist in Sarasota. It has saved my life twice; cancer and heart disease. One of the best decisions we have made was asking to become one of his patients.

I just had the worst experience in my entire medical history and I am 69 yrs old. If I could give zero stars I would. I recently moved to Sarasota area and was unable to find an experienced doctor that was still accepting Medicare patients. So I decided to join MDVIP and chose Dr Chris Gelvin as my physician. The problem occurred during the initial medical history meeting. I have always maintained my health with annual check up, mammograms and other tests. So in other words I am very aware of my health. Based on a medication I was on for anxiety for 6 months he jumped to a conclusion that I was bipolar. I was shocked. I told him that was not correct. When I looked at the online notes there it was. I told him to remove it and he said only if my psychiatrist gave him her notes. Never in my life have I met a doctor that was so arrogant and aggressive. Needless to say I changed doctors. He doesn’t listen and his office manager threaten to contact Medicare unless I paid for visit.

I was locally scheduled for cancer surgery. However, Dr. Gelvin insisted that I get a second opinion at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Moffitt recommended cancellation of the surgery. It was cancelled! Someday I may need treatment. But in the meantime I don't have to wear diapers. Thank God for Dr. Gelvin's "smarts".

The office is not well run and staff don't always mask. Procedures are not well coordinated and put much of the burden on the patient. Staff doesnt communicate efficiently with one another. There may be a reason to use this provider but i have yet to find it.

I've been his patient for over 10 years. Dr. Gelvin is very knowlegeable, and is able to treat all conditions from his diagnoses. When I had two different diagnoses, his was accurate. He has an excellent staff, and I highly recommend him.

I've been going to Dr. Gelvin for nearly 20 years. Back when I had no insurance, I had an abnormal mammogram. I didn't reply to their phone call because I could not afford the biopsy. They called me again and connected me with a foundation which paid for the biopsy. I don't feel rushed when I'm there, even though he works hard to keep his appointments on time. I highly recommend him.

I saw Dr. Gelvin twice. The first time he met me, he barely acknowledged me; he was working his computer. Although I have excellent insurance (Medicare plus secondary that covers everything Medicare doesn't), he presented me with a form to sign -before beginning my annual checkup- making me responsible for any charges he cared to tack on above that. This was the 2nd signature he asked for. His other form said that patients with chronic conditions also agree to pay more. He should be a banker

My wife and I have been going to see Dr Gelvin since we moved here two years ago. I have multiple illnesses from cancer to a benign tumor in my brain and a few more issues. I’ve never ever felt rushed by him. It takes a lot of skill and patience to deal w such a broad spectrum of illnesses some of which have medications that when overlapped could be a problem. This is where medicine becomes an art in balancing pros and cons. So far I feel he has done an exceptional job.

Dr. Gelvin came highly recommended by a coworker and I am very pleased with the service he provides. He is always prompt, kind, and explains everything well. Additionally, I have a very busy schedule and he would always find time to fit me in. I called the office one afternoon to say that I would be 30 minutes late to my 4:45 appointment and to see if I could reschedule, but Dr. Gelvin stayed late to see me. His medical assistant and staff have also been wonderful.

I have been going to Dr Gelvin for about 15 years and since I have been on Medicare it seems he has to many patients and concentrates on one subject. Was told by his staff that I had pulmonary fibrosis which was diagnosed by the radiologists that read the CT scan, went to a lung doctor and he looked at the CT scan and said; you do not have that I worried about diagnosis for 6 weeks before I could get an appointment with this lung doctor the lung doctor sent Dr Gelvin a copy of his report.

Dr Gelvin was suggested to me by family members. A nice enough guy, but over the @2 years I saw him, I felt at times like he was practicing medicine by trial and error. At one point I developed a rash; I went back 3 different times whereby I saw him and his two assistants, and each time they re-diagnosed the cause of the rash and prescribed me something completely different. Told me to stop taking BP & cholesterol meds during treatment: I had a heart attack during this time. Not recommended.

This guys the pits. He was recomended by a friend. He comes in, looks at your chart and runs out as soon as possible evidently to get to the next patient. Keeps the money rolling in. Immediately perscribed 2 medications and was gone in a flash. After visiting another doctor was told the 2 medications he perscribed would have made my condition worse. Stay away from this one.
