not best doctor along w/ bad nursing/admin staff
I received the results the next day from a procedure Dr. Pugh had ordered, but didn’t hear back from Dr. Pugh. About 2 weeks later, my primary care doctor reviewed the results of the procedure with me but said that it was important that Dr. Pugh, a pulmonologist, should talk to me. My primary doctor sent an urgent message to Dr. Pugh and, then, had to send a follow-up as no reply. About 2 weeks later, Dr. Pugh finally sent me a one-sentence email about the results. Also, there were issues with his nursing/admin. staff. I decided to switch pulmonologists. Dr. Pugh is not a good doctor.

My experience with Dr Pugh was very poor. His staff was fine, but he never read my chart and asked me why I was there for appointments that he scheduled. I would not trust him with any important issues because he never seemed to be listening and would not accept responsibility for the lack of concern shown. Duke cherry- picks his reviews to make him appear better than he delivers, but for this patient - he was horrible.

Dr. Pugh is a very compassionate, thorough, professional doctor. He does not rush you through your appointment and answers all questions. I am extremely pleased with Dr. Pugh and will not use another physician for my lung issues.

I left a post before. I think ?? about this GUY & can’t understand how DUKE university could have a person on their staff that is so unqualified as PUGH . Larry L Pranger. HE, don’t even know what sleep machine that’s used for complex sleep apnea. But, I found that in many of Duke’s doctors outside of the university. Zero to every doctor I’ve seen outside of university. 5 total. For medical care, you can’t really live in N C. Beautiful ?? state. Nice ?? people. Nice weather. NO private doctors.!!!

This is not a review of this doctor's skills but of the lack of follow through of the scheduling staff and the extremely looooooonnnnnngggg recorded answering system you have to wade through in order to talk with a person. My mother had to cancel her visit due to a fall that landed her in the hospital. When I tried to reschedule the appointment, it never happened even though I called 2 times in the course of 4 business days. I have yet to hear back so due to her condition (as she is now getting worse and seems to be coughing up blood), I had to find another pulmonologist in her network so she can get seen before it turns into an emergency (landing her in the hospital once more). I am so upset, angry and frustrated with the lack of concern the office appears to have for their patients that while I do not normally do this, I felt others should know. Especially the doctors and the staff of this office.

After seeing Dr. Pugh several times, I came to believe that in my case he jumped to conclusions and made assumptions without collecting important information. I didn't feel heard and he usually rushed out of the exam room before I could ask questions. He tried to take away my oxygen therapy when my heart doctor told me I needed it. A six minute walk is nowhere close to a reasonable test of real world function. He also charged $25 for appointments I could not keep because of other medical issues. Don't let the smile fool you. No compassion here.

This doctor does not follow up. Information on paperwork/results was incorrect. This doctor will not return your telephone calls. Save the aggravation and go to another Pulmonologist. My PCP will be informed of poor response/experience.

My husband and I really like Dr Pugh but I have a potentially positive chest CT for almost 2 months. I need to have a bronchoscopy scheduled and have made 4 or 5 calls to the nurse line with no response. I hate changing doctors but will not be treated this way. Guess Duke doctors are too busy to follow up with their patients. Unfortunately, this is not the first doctor with Duke that has neglected to return calls.

After cancelling a NEW PATIENT appt. (the day of) due to pain medication inhibiting my ability to drive, I received a bill for $25.00 to pay Dr. Pugh as a result of the appointment. I called the billing office and explained that I have no control over my nervous system (due to cervical and lumbar stenosis) and no control over flare ups. I was told Dr. Pugh would be informed and they would call back. They never called back. I called back. Dr. Pugh wants his $25.00. Dr. Pugh has NO COMPASSION!
