Not As Promised
Not as promised. Vision after first eye's cataract replacement was sub-optimal. I wanted Dr. Spellman to consider putting in a toric lens to correct for astigmatism. I was willing to pay for the upgraded lense. He said I didn't need it on this first eye; (most likely 2nd eye which had more astigmatism). He didn't have me use moistening eye drops ahead of surgery (though is standared of care) to treat potentially dry eye conditions & get accurate lense assessment. After surgery my vision was blurry. When eye healed completely I had sub-optimal distance vision that didn't match what he said I would enjoy. His explanation of my results was that 'I was an anomaly!'When I sought out explanation of my post-op vision difficulty from other specialists they said he should have used a toric lense. I've had my 2nd eye's cataract replaced now with a Toric lense and my distance vision is nearly perfect without the aid of glasses. Unfortunately I still need glasses because of his choice.

I'm very pleased with Dr. Spellman. My family doc recommended him when I wasn't seeing well. Dr. Spellman helped me with my dry eye and also removed my cataracts. My vision has returned and I don't need glasses now. I couldn't be happier. He is very nice and his staff is as well. He runs a busy, but very efficient practice. It's always a pleasure to go there. His new office in Carlsbad is quite nice.

I think Dr. Spellman is wonderful. He has taken care of my husband's glaucoma for many years and then did his cataract surgery when my husband was ready. He is meticulous and thorough in everything he does. He is also very kind. So naturally when my cataracts were ready I had Dr. Spellman do the surgery and everything went great. I have perfect vision now and the surgery was easy!

I highly recommend Dr. Spellman. He was recommended to me by several friends who had cataract surgery with him and were very happy with the results. He did my cataract surgery and everything is outstanding. It was a breeze. What I appreciate about him the most is that he takes the time to carefully explain everything. Very nice guy. His staff are charming as well.
