I would not go back to Dr. Southwell.
I began visiting Dr. Southwell's office in 2021 or 2022 due to an insurance change with my previous pulmonologist. The first year I saw Dr. Southwell once. He was very personable but appeared rushed for time. After seeing Kelly Tabor, nurse practitioner, I was very impressed. She took her time and never rushed. The last three visits I waited an hour or more past my appointment time to see Dr. Southwell and then he was always in a rush. The last visit was for an annual breathing test, and he said it would have to be rescheduled again. He prescribed two generic medications for my asthma, saying they would be much cheaper than a name brand I had tried, but ended up costing over $750 with insurance. When I brought this to his attention, he prescribed another medication that was not on my insurance company's formulary. The lady at the front desk is overworked with barely time to go to the restroom. She needs more help. I have changed doctors and now see one in Gallatin.

Long wait- and then a rushed visit- I witnessed a staff member being talked down to. Very unprofessional in front of patients.

He is money focused and does not care for patients. He takes advantage of special needs clients ts and does not care for them He should be brought before the med board. Not fit to be a dr.

Beware of this practice!
I have never been to a doctor’s office that was so chaotic. I could go on and on about how unprofessional and unorganized this practice is. Go elsewhere. I have!

Same same
All of the previous comments unfortunately is exactly the experience I had while I was there only it went pretty fast. The staff seemed friendly but I felt rushed, my grand daughter was with me and they were nice with her, the dr came in the room after my X-rays that were never mentioned during the consult with this doctor and he tried to prescribe me a medication for my asthma when the only reason I was there was get my sleep apnea machine supplies ordered since the company I was using no longer is covered by my insurance and I was paying out of pocket, I told the staff I was wanting refills for my sleep apnea machine supplies when I called but never heard anything until the end of the consult when I asked the dr about it and he looked confused and then said after a long pause oh ok I will check that for you and I will get back with you. I haven’t heard a word and it’s been a few days. I’ll call back after the weekend. After reading others reviews, I’m worried!

Did not see Dr.Southwell. A nurse practitioner.
Waited in room forever. Dr. Southwell came to the door and said he would be back. A male nurse practitioner saw me instead. Did not get anywhere on my care plan. No medication was sent to the pharmacy. Even though my lungs were tight.Just an inhaler. Dr. Southwell did not follow up on the asthma care plan. Rushed me out of the room. Rude. Would not recommend this Doctor.

I would highly recommend Dr Southwell and his staff. Caring and thorough. He follows up with you when he prescribes a new medication. He is the best pulmonologist I have been to. I know that he has my health and my best interest at heart. I feel very lucky to have him and his staff on my side.

I have allot of confidence in Dr.Southwell. He has always been very helpful to me. I only remember I time I had to wait for more than 15-20 minuets. He had an emergency patient then. He was very nice.

This Dr was assigned to me when I was admitted to the hospital. He was ready to send me home while I was still in ICU barely able to breathe with a lung bacterial infection & double pneumonia. Thank God the primary physician overseeing my care did not agree & brought in a different pulmonologist for a 2nd opinion. I stayed in ICU for 2 more days & then in a regular room for 3 after that. I was deathly ill & he only talked to me like 5 minute, seemed aloof & unconcerned. I shudder to think what would have happened if he'd have been allowed to discharge me too soon.

My only problem was with the inordinate waits on my two visits. The first time was 1 hour and 15 minutes. The second time was over 2 hours...the office was closing and they asked what I was still doing there. I told them I was waiting for my appointment over 2 hours earlier. The office appears to be poorly managed, if managed at all. I was told if I waited more than "an hour," I should say something. On the other hand, my overnight sleep study was handled flawlessly by the two ladies on staff.

The incompetence in this office is amazing. The staff has no clue what they're doing and the doctor isn't much better. Was under his care for 5 months and I'm no better today than i was then but he wants to keep seeing me so i can pay him. NOPE, I'm finding another doctor who wants to help me not just take my money!

Sleep study was performed, received diagnosis and prescribed CPAP machine. It has dramatically improved my life. I thought I had dementia - turns out it was poor sleep causing memory and cognitive function problems. The staff was professional and courteous. I did not have a long wait in either scheduling or when at the office.

Always have to call to get the office to remind them to get approval from the insurance for scans. (That's not my job) I have been waiting for two weeks for test results that they were suppose to call me about....I called them this morning, the staff had not even given them to the doctor, and they have had the results since Dec. 28'th 2016. I have been seeing him for over a year and it's an ordeal with his staff EVERY time. I'm going to speak with my PCP about him taking over my case.

This office clearly over books and knows it. We sat there with my adult disabled son for 1 1/2 hours. He wears diapers, had wet, and was extremely irratated as anyone would be. Now I know the red carpet doesn't need to be rolled out for him, but when places aren't equipped to take care of such things, priority should be considered. We haven't had this problem in the past, the waiting and exam rooms were full, so it appears there's a cattle rustling attitude about their patients now.Not going back
